Thank you for this list. I am trying not to start any new shows until I finish others. I can’t keep track of the storylines from week to week when I watch too many shows at once. Im still watching over 20, but some are already finished and some will finish this week, so I will focus on those. I’m hoping to start Connecting to you and either My Summer of You or Your Summer, My Storm soon.

I did finish a few shows this weekend including a vertical GL that I was angrily forced to pay to watch the last few episodes. From now on I will try to stick with verticals on iQIYI or Gaga. I also finally watched all of My Staycation Boy, which I enjoyed. YinWar flirting for over an hour! Fun.

I also finished a straight kdrama which I feel compelled to mention because it was so delightful: Like Flowers in Sand (2023). A super loveable male lead and a wonderful cast of supporting and side characters made this a really great watch. It was a good mix of wrestling, slice of life/romance and mystery. The romance doesn’t have an entirely closed ending though, but I was satisfied.

Also, I continue to watch the bromance Four Hands, Two Sonatas but I’m torn about whether I should continue. It is really melodramatic and relies on the typical family problems of an unloving, demanding family and a parent in debt. So farnot a single parental figure has shown any love for the two main characters. This just kills me. The MLs clearly need their friendship, but every time there’s a minute of bromance, we don’t get to enjoy it because something happens to get in the way once again.

Whenever I watch a melodramatic kdrama I’m reminded that I prefer BLs. At least melodramatic BLs revolve around beautiful romances! But then I watch a kdrama I really like and I decide I just need to choose my shows more carefully. Honestly, I’ve converted enough friends and family to kdramas that as long as I rely on recommendations, I’m good. I usually only watch a few straight kdramas each year anyway. BLs always take precedent.

I blame Song Kang’s beautiful face and talent for roping me into his bromance. Plus I’ve really liked several of his other shows. I’m not good at dropping things, though. Plus, I want to know what will happen. So I’ll probably keep watching, even if it’s upsetting. Problems, problems.

I know I am soooo late to the this one, but I binge watched the A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills' Dream.

I get it why this has been so hyped. This goes to the category of BLs that gets almost everything right from, acting, screen writing, the filming locations, production etc. This one of those series that is not only great as a BL but a great series in general.

BUT why I mean why did they have to kill the younger brother?! I get it, it's a Chinese BL, so they needed some kind of tragic plot line (someone could send a memo to the writers that we don't always need crucial characters dying for the drama effect). My issue with this particular choice was that 1) we already had two tragic character deaths in the show and 2) the brother's death at least for me changed the whole watching experience and not for the positive.

All the way until to the death part, this had been such a joy to watch. I don't think I have ever smiled so much following a series, where you from the start know how everything is going to end for the main pair, but it is done in such way that is still intriguing to watch. After the younger brother dies the show is not only haunted by the death but the death causes a lot of other things to happen, where everyone just seems to constantly struggle. The joy of watching was just gone. Even when the main couple get their happy ending, you were still reminded by the death at the end and the happy ending felt hollow.

I had a dejavu to Shine as I had finished this. A series that is so perfect in all aspects I would otherwise probably watch it over and over again, but the one single plot choice at the very end of the show ruined the rewatch value for me completely. Still just like Shine, this would probably be a show I would recommend to both BL and non-BL watchers, for the fact that the show nails every aspect you could imagine in a series production.

It’s one of the straight romances that I like to rewatch once a year. I recommend it too ! 😊

I’m enjoying it, even though I had a hard time concentrating on it yesterday (but it was the same with everything, not just this one). Like you, I’m frustrated by the parental figures. I feel so sad for Pi O and Jeong Yo. 😭 And since it’s supposed to be a straight romance, I’d like to see more of Jae In.

Since I joined this forum, I’ve been watching a lot fewer straight K-dramas. But when I do watch them now, I don’t enjoy them as much as I used to. I don’t know if BLs just appeal to me more now, or if straight K-dramas just aren’t as good as they used to be quality-wise. 🤔

Oh, maybe that’s why I felt the need to rewatch the second couple’s scenes from Shine not long ago. 😂

ETA : Winter Sun : I think some of the dialogues will always stay with me, like :

“-Mom, the mother who accompanied me through four lifetimes is gone.
-She just left a little earlier. She’s waiting for you in the next life.”

I agree with everything you said about this series. It was def harder to watch after the infamous EP 13. At the end I consoled myself with the fact we at least got a happy main couple ending. It coulda gone differently!

After going through that emotional wringer I'd like to see a HEA for Hu Yi Chen's next character to kinda help heal, lol.

Sooo...how much of this drama has romance, do u think? I wasn't interested in it cuz my impression is it's overall vibe is sports and slice of life, which isn't bad just not my fav combo.

I've watched a lot of K-dramas over the years and I think it's both, but for sure they aren't feeling on the same level as they used to for the past year or two. I've even thought about going back to rewatch a few older favs instead of the current choices, cuz I'm feeling disappointed more often than not. Or at least more "ho-hum" about them.
