According to the review on BL Express, some scenes are missing from the free (cut) version you watched which are important to the story - so that could be the reason you're puzzled.

I think it might be it. But you know, I'm not sure... I have faint memories that I've actually purchased a monthly subscription and then it ended before the show xD  I probably should do a rewatch. Maybe it will change my perspective on it (not the subtitles, those were poorly made, full stop).

(I must admit it happened a few other times with Thai dramas... almost never happened with J, Taiwanese or K BLs, so I wondered if there was some kind of cultural difference, but it seems like it's not the case xD).

Given that a lot of subtitling on BL dramas is done by fansubbers voluntarily including on platforms like Viki, it may just be a matter of how many folks are fluent in both English and the language of the country of origin. You will find fewer fansubbers of Thai, Vietnamese, and Filipino dramas than for Japanese or Korean.

I think Perth (as a native English and Thai as a second language speaker) has mentioned a few times about having to translate Thai lines from a script into English and stumbling himself. I'm not sure that all Thai production houses actually employ English translators for subs, let alone Spanish or other languages.

It is notable when watching a drama on different platforms how varied the translations can be. Certainly,  watching "To My Star" on every platform that provided English subs (Viki, GagaOoLala, WeTv, iQIYI, and some dedicated BL fansubbers) highlighted the fact that the subtitles wildly differ wildly for some scenes altering the meaning and, subsequently the viewers understanding of the scene and characters.

I'm quoting this only because the system said that I cannot quote long post (go figure why xD), but I'm replying on the subtitles issue.

I agree with you that money and resource availability is a key factor in the quality of subtitles, and I guess that many productions just rely on international fans to provide them (at the very beginning of my journey into Thai drama/Lakorn etc it was like this, you would find the "subtitles offered by fans" title in most of the series) and for sure this was the case for Hit Bite Love, 'cause they were clearly on very limited budget.

I'm not blaming anyone, let me get this gay, I'm, in fact, very grateful to those who provide subtitles, but I must admit that I'm getting spoiled and I want to understand as much as possible from them. So that's why I said what I said regarding Hit Bite Love, but I'm in no way trying to offend those who provide subtitles. (I LOVE YOU GUYS)
