who needs such trivialities as coherant plot and character development

To me, this film brough to mind "Donnie Darko" and similar psychological explorations in that the MC, Homura Itsuki is clearly suffering from some form of psychosis, which is, like the gore all part of the Grand Guignol tradition. To put it bluntly, it's meant to be a mind f*ck.

Taiwan always delivers. I think it's the best in terms of productions (Japan is getting there).

I haven't watched a lot of Taiwanese dramas yet, but except for a few they've all been pretty good.

 Chun Mo Rionnag:

Cute fact: That was Li Zhen Hao's first kiss on screen and in real life. Well, technically second because he had one practice kiss with Shen Jyun just before filming that scene for which they were told off by the director.

Ahhhh I see, that's nice to know~ ^^

(re "About Youth") Aww, how sweet!

For a while it seemed almost as if Li Zhen Hao and Shen Jyun were dating in real life - or was this just really good fan service? In any case, they were both such extraordinarily good first-time actors, I hope we see more of them.

Taiwanese fan service is on another level. The actors take it all in good fun while promoting their film, or drama; seemingly more free and natural than others. Then a few months after the series has aired and promotional events are complete, you will seen announcement of their engagement, marriage, or the birth of a child with much less backlash from fans than might be seen in other countries.

Grrr. After all this talk about "About Youth", now I have the irresistable urge to rewatch it, which is really silly because this wonderful series is already on my "watched more times than I can count" list. I know it by heart! Already now on Episode 3.  No wonder I never seem to find the time to get to all the new stuff. Hosh, you started it - it's your fault!

Really? Interesting

I just watched the finale for Only Friends. First of all let me say that I am pleased with the ending.  It however was not a ten for me. I have gotten to realise that as the years go by I have gotten really critical of the series I watch and so me rating one a 10 seldom happens; not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

For me, rating Only Friends and gathering my thoughts about I have to look at each couple's story individually then think about how it all came together. Sand and Ray stole the show for me. I loved how their love story progressed and how they overcame the conflicts in their relationship as well as how these conflicts dealt with real issues. I loved the story they portrayed and the lessons in it, I believed they delivered on the love aspect as well as the serious issues such as alcoholism and taking care of others while forgetting to take care of yourself as well. Just like in Eclipse the series they did it for me; their last scenes walking and listening to music and kissing on that rooftop sealed the deal for me.

I am very satisfied with Boston  and  Nick's ending. I think it was very realistic, I would not mind a continuation on how Ton's life turns out in terms of love.

As for Mew and Top's story I was not that big of a fan of it, I think I just don't see the chemistry between the two actors since their first series Enchante. However putting that aside their story was promoting maturity in terms of forgiveness especially in regards to cheating, I however am not that mature, and could not see past the cheating. Their story for me just went off for me after Ray's turning bad phase I would have liked for Ray's bad phase to be explored a little more giving deeper emotions.

All in all for me it was a 7.

Oh and thank you Boeing for those visuals you were very welcomed on my screen.

Edit: Just realised I mixed up Ray's and Mew's name oops

Fàilte!

I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the Only Friends finale.

Here’s mine: I loved that SandRay ended up together. The chemistry was chemistrying for me between these two the entire show but when is it not. I have to be honest and say that for the most part, I checked out of MewTops relationship basically from the start of the series. I just don’t really understand how after all of the mess that they went through, that they still ended up together and something about that pairing wasn’t really doing it for me either. I thought Boston was the most complex character in the show and I would have liked it if they had dug a little deeper into his characterization. He’s a “hunter” by nature but it seems like there’s something within him that wants to experience true love and romance. He just doesn’t know how to achieve that or act in that manner. I also didn’t like how the other characters were trying to act holier than thou when it came to Boston either. I mean I get it, he’s not the best person or friend in the world and he’s promiscuous (which is not a crime at all) and has done manipulative things. But, at least he knows who he is and sticks by it for the most part and he tried to be honest and mend things up. The friends were seriously acting like they have never and could do no wrong at all throughout the series. It’s like they just chose Boston to take the brunt of every single thing. Sue me, but I felt a tad bit of empathy towards Boston during the finale.  I am glad that Nick ultimately decided to break it off with Boston though and choose loving himself. It truly made me happy to see. Boeing’s character was there to shake things up a bit which I don’t mind either.

Also, loved the Mix addition at the end. It had been rumored that he would show up and I thought he would be the ex but this is nice too because as an ending with him coming in trying to flirt with Mew off the bat, it only adds to the belief that the mess truly will never stop between the group. It kind of leaves the door open almost for a second season but I don’t know if that will happen.

Side note: I am kind of disappointed in how they treated Jennie’s storyline with her boyfriend. Like, I get it that she’s just a guest/supporting character but remember when a few episodes back, when her and her boyfriend broke up and there was an emotional moment? That scene literally came out of nowhere because we really hadn’t spent any time with those characters to know any backstory or anything to justify witnessing them at that point. My thing is if they are going to include things about her or her boyfriend, it shouldn’t just be random scenes thrown in like that because it’s like what’s the point?  They should treat and take the storyline more seriously but that’s just how I feel personally.

I would definitely say that this show is not a 10. I would give it an 8.0 because it does have flaws but I thought it was captivating and left room for much discussions. It was a wild ride truly!

Well, that's the end of the "Y Journey: Stay Like a Local" (Thailand, 2023) BL-themed tourism series. Six short videos each with a theme. I guess they were a way to pass the time.

Thanks for the nudge. This was on my "Plan to watch" list, but things tend to get stuck there. It didn't take long to watch the six mini-episodes, and I enjoyed them! (Well, the subtitles are a bit of a struggle to follow, but there's not much story anyways.)

even tho it was my most anticipated series for 2023,  slowly my interest in this series dropped. there were too many moments where I really couldn't understand why they were coming back for each other after all this mess. it felt like the plot was trying to stretch with uninteresting events like Boieng and that brother with Boston. I am unfortunate to give it a bad review.

but all of this shows that I can't predict my opinion completely a series based on the trailer and the cast. in addition to "Be My Favorite" which I thought I would hate it, turns out it was so good (IMO)
