For those who watched Cherry Magic in both the Jap and Thai versions, which do you prefer and why?

I liked both and can’t really choose because both are nice and done in a way that showcases both countries cultures in their own way. Having said that, the Japanese is probably a bit more special to me because I saw it first and initially, I couldn’t help comparing the two in the first few episodes, but as the Thai series went on, I liked it more.

EP 9 IS SO SAD T_T my heart broke when Jom told Yai to get engaged to Busabong

I cried so much wth TT

It's such a good drama, the romance and the story itself is just so beautiful

Hang in there if you’re still watching. It will get better.

 Sruthipriya mahesh:

you watch non-BLs also?? I am actually trying to start watching some straight dramas too, can you recommend me some thai ones? (I didn't ask for Japanese, because I know you don't watch them, but if you do, let me know! :) )

I just watched this piece of crap called kakafukaka... like one user said, it should be called kakafuckaka... its seriously the worst drama I have ever watched... it was such a bad experience losing my v-card to a non-BL drama...  i cant believe I wasted 3 and a half hours watching that BS... if anyone plans to watch it, I highly recommend not doing so...

I have also watched some non-BL Thai dramas and it depends what genre you’re after, I can recommend some. The ones I have seen are all from GMMTV and you can find them on YT.

These are two romantic/life stories and the first one is a romcom.

1. Mama Gogo - I enjoyed this quite a bit. One of the highlights is the male strippers.

2. Good Old Days - This series consists of six separate stories of love, life and even some regrets. A nice story portraying realities of life.

3. Faceless Love - A cute story love story between a CEO who suffers from face blindness and is misunderstood as cold and mean and his assistant.

These are more drama, mystery/phschological and investigative.

1. P.S. I Hate You - There’s betrayal, unfaithfulness and angst in this one. I couldn’t finish it but hubby who watched it with me did and said he enjoyed it especially the ending (which was unexpected). There’s a gay side story in this.

2. The Player - Again, one filled with angst, murder etc. The FL and ML reminds me of the step siblings from Cruel Intentions.

3. An Eye for an Eye - A drama involving a family that seems perfect but is not and about a son learning to take over his father’s company after his death.

These should keep you busy for now and hopefully, you will enjoy one of these.

 Sruthipriya mahesh:

I don't know... I also watched like 6 to 7 episodes of the drama in the beginning... I think I have watched it up until the point, when the uncle gets his head severed off... but I don't know, I don't find myself engaged... it could probably be because there were SO MANY good dramas that were being released alongside with it, but the end point still remains, that I don't have any incentive to watch it, or rather, continue watching it...
But if you do complete watching it,  let me know if it is worth watching :)

Yeah I'll def lyk if I end up finishing it

Hopefully it's good!

 Jojo:

Yeah I hope so

I really NEED it to be a good ending for YaiJom, they deserve the world TT

For those who watched Cherry Magic in both the Jap and Thai versions, which do you prefer and why?

I truly beleive the Thai adaption is the better adaption, because it managed to fix the small things that bothered me about the original.

First of all, Jinta & Min vs. Tsuge & Minato. Tsuge was unlikable to me from begining to end. That man was annoying. I thought I would have the same problem with Jinta up until the episode where he helps mend Rock’s and Min’s friendship. I loved that he was given depth and I even started to like him a little. In the Japanese version he always gives the worse advice. Can I also say that Mark was so endearing as Min.

Achi/Adachi was also played very differently between New & Akaso Eiji. I beleive both performances were very good, but New’s take was more relatable. While Adachi has issues understanding people and participating in society, Achi is just and introvert who actively cares for others but needed a push to become the main character of his life. I loved that once Achi made up his mind, he pursued Karan as equally as he was pursued. It made for more heart fluttering moments. For me. this character is where the difference between the Japanese and Thai take shows the most.

The Japanese version remains is iconic, and one I would re-watch simply because of Machida Keita. Tay as Karan was lovely, but Machida Keita as Kurasawa is a dream. That character lives in my mind rent free, I’m like those girl’s in love with Darcy but replace him with Kurasawa lol

Lastly, the main thing that sets the two shows apart is the length and format. I’m a sucker for shows that manage to wrap up the issues that come up in an episode within the same episode, and the Thai adaption mostly did a good job with that. The length also gave it room for more sweet moments. Plus, the whole story flowed better than the Japanese adaption, where you have to jump from a drama to a movie to get the whole story.

Hello my dears,

I am new to this thread and to the BL Drama World. :-)

I have just watched the last episode of Cherry Magic (2023 Thai Version) and need to tell someone, how much I love/ loved it! I didn't expect to fall in love with this series so much.

It was my first BL drama and also my first Thai drama. So two firsts.
For me it was the perfect introduction to this world. I liked the story, the relationships of the main leads and the other characters very much.
It was so beautiful to see how Achi and Karan grew closer and how sweet and tender they were towards each other. I could literally feel their affection for each other. This series will always have a special place in my heart from now on.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, does anyone have other drama recommendations for a BL newbie like me?
If I should indicate preferences for orientation: with office/ coworker setting (if there are any left),  great chemistry in your eyes, or enemies to lovers trope, most comfortable with happy end ...  But I am open for everything. :-) Which BL dramas you wholeheartedly recommend and a newbie has to watch? :-)
I feel like I have to catch up on a lot and I don't know where to start. :D

Thank you in advance! :-)

I watch non-BLs! The shock, the collective gasps, the blasphemy, lollll

 Sruthipriya mahesh:

HAHAHAHA dwl

Okay (wiping tears) I can say I never had a bad experience watching a non-BL drama (lucky me). Let me give some context, my first Asian drama experience was NOT a BL (collective gasps...again); so I love love love romance, so I started out watching Hallmark movies, then my first Asian drama was an Hindi Indian soap opera  called It Seems Beautiful (Bade Achhe Lagte Hain) the 2011 version staring Sakshi Tanwar, then I watched another Hindi Indian soap opera called  Strange Love (Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon) 2011 - 2012, and then I watched another one called The Promise (Kya Huaa Tera Vaada (क्या हुआ तेरा वादा) 2012; and then last Indian soap opera I watched was Revenge (Ek Hasina Thi) 2014.

I have fond memories watching these because they used to air on local TV  during the week but on weekends there would be marathons of the episodes that aired during the week and my mom and I would watch those marathons. I cannot find them anywhere though and the little episodes I do find are not in English so I cannot re-watch sadly. The one with the least amount of episodes has 235 episodes with the longest being 644 episodes so drama galore.

BLs came in sometime here but I do not remember my first BL sadly

Now my second Kdrama (I cannot remember the name of my first) was Noble, My Love . I do not remember the order I watched the others but here they are:

It's Okay To Not Be Okay (I think every Kdrama fan has watched this)

Doctors

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Leverage

What's Wrong with Secretary Kim

Miss Hammurabi

Crash Landing on You

A Business Proposal

Cleaning Up

That is it for Kdramas; I am sure there are others but I do not remember them so they are not on my WatchList

Cdramas

My first one was Sunshine of My Life

Then we have the others:

Here to Heart (bring tissues)

Love Unexpected

Please Feel at Ease Mr. Ling

Hello Mr. Gru

Ancient Love Poetry

I have only watch one Thai drama which is The Crown Princess, don't let the name fool you it is an action drama.

Jdramas

I have watch only one and it is a medical series, no romance, but God DAMN I LOVE THIS SERIES FROM THE VERY DEPTHS OF MY HEART. I would trade a couple BLs to watch it again for the first time.

Doctor X (seasons 1 - 7) and it has a special episode - Doctor X 1: Gekai Daimon Michiko Special, this special episode took place after season 3.

So yup very long post but I enjoyed reliving my life before BLs with those Indian soap operas.

Gosh, there are so many good ones, I don't know where to begin. It depends not only on your tastes but also on what subscriptions you have (if any), such as Viki, iQiyi and/or Gagaoolala. Korean and Japanese BLs tend to be more office worker scenarios than Thai BLs.

First of all welcome to the BL Club. I am happy you got a very good series to be your first BL and Thai experience. To save time from typing these out here is a list of my Favourite BLs I made. I recommend you try the ones rated 9 - 10 then consider the ones I rated 8. There are a lot of fan favourites on there so as others give their recs there will start being some overlaps so you can wait until others respond and just pick out the overlaps makes things easier. Welcome again, another member will give you the official welcome soon. Happy watching you have just entered heaven.

Hello p43425 thank you for your answer.!

Oh you are right, I forgot about that. :-) I think I'll just try my luck and see if I can find a few of the dramas recommended and if not, I'm out of luck. :D
I am open for other than Thai, too. I appreciate every recommendation.
Is there a Korean or Japanese BL office drama you think I can give a try or another one, what is one of your favourites?

Oh wow, I will definately have a look at your Favourite BL list and I'm glad for your help for orientation.
That's a good idea to look at the high rated first and so on.
I'm looking forward to reading descriptions and doing research. :-) I love lists and doing research. :D

I am happy that I may be part of the community.
