GL Drama Lovers Club

Anyone else refuse to watch GL actresses' straight works? If they made any that is. Like for Japanese GL for example, you could technically follow an actress throughout her filmography before she decided to star in a GL, but why would I do that?

Same goes with BLs tbh. I do have some exceptions like Milk Pansa and Gun Atthaphan, as I am happy to see them on screen at all, therefore I'll be watching at least their main roles. But still. What's up with this?

Have you ever watched a more convoluted and complicated universe as the Chao Planoy's various shows... how does she keep up. Everything is inconnected...which would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that each show has crossover characters BUT different versions of the same character... when these are all based off her novels why am I seeing the Planoy cinematic universe and it's multiverse. The mind BOGGLES, there is so much variation and adaption from a series of books. My brain HURTS😭😭😭

I have ENOUGH girl/boy pairings with other mainstream actors/actresses in KD/TD I cannot be indulging in more het nonsense 😜😜😜 when we feed off scraps for GL. As an actual lesbian, I fully understand G4P but at least with the Asian CPs they keep the illusion going 24/7 (though that must get exhausting) My delulu is firmly kept in check that they aren't all bumping uglies outside of the kayfabe (wrestling term but basically the "story" I do give props to the commitment to the cause though. They DO be understanding the assignment! And none of the GL cps I've watched outside of the shows in the "RL" moments look awkward or fake per se. They really do be selling the FULL package. So my small lesbian heart will small small believe (though only like 10%)

The only Thai dramas I watch are GLs, simply because I think the average Thai drama is of a lower standard that many Korean or Chinese dramas. But personally, I don't have a problem watching an actress who has played a gay character, also play a straight character (e.g. Kim Tae Ri). I have no problem differentiating the actress from the character they are playing. I appreciate the 'shipping that happens (especially) with Thai GL actresses, but sadly, some fans turn their admiration into unhealthy obsession.

I don't really like watching straight dramas in general though. So maybe that's it, that's the issue. Even so, I would probably not be opposed to my fave actresses playing role reversal het romance sometimes. I am just tired of the traditional straight stuff going on. If it's straight, at least make it role reversal, I say.

Same. A large part of the reason I watch BL, GL and a bit of RR is to diversify and therefore destabilize the standard heteronormative relationship mold that my brain sadly still perceives as the default. Growing up, I've seen countless straight romances, and barely any alternatives, which lead to comphet, which was damaging. Now that I can choose, I want to see all the alternatives, all the gender-nonconformity and gay-ness and queerplatonic ace relationships and polyamory. I don't want to see the standard heteronormative gender-conforming formula at all anymore. It's been too all-encompassing and hegemonic.

Watching a famous GL actress in a straight role would especially reinforce the comphet 'You'll eventually have to be some guy's girlfriend anyways. You can't escape your purpose, your biology, your womanhood. Nobody else can either, not forever anyways. See? It's only natural and expected. Stop being silly and trying to be different.' -feeling. 

So, extra no thx to that.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who engages with queer media for this reason. Though I think most people can't put their finger on why they like it and why they cringe at straight media. I think this is also the reason actors/actresses who play gay roles get so much hate for being in real life straight relationships; because it triggers fans' internalized comphet, and that hurts, and then they lash out at the perceived cause of that hurt. Thankfully I don't get all that attached to celebrities, so I'm not at risk of ever doing that.

Ive just started The Rich Man's Daughter (currently ep12) this show is ridiculous. The drama at every millisecond... craziness abounds... I don't know if I can survive until the 65th episode 🤣🤣🤣 and I thought KDramas were dramatic and the thai dramas... I have been outdone. 2015 was a mad time
