I recently came across a comment saying that people who dislike dark themes such as rape/SA, abuse, violence, etc. should simply avoid watching that particular drama. It got me thinking about how some people genuinely believe certain pieces of media should not be critiqued because they contain these themes.
Personally, I don’t think fiction exists in a vacuum. Media has societal impact. Just as good representation of sensitive topics can positively affect the real world, poor representation can negatively affect it too.
Does this mean you cannot enjoy dark romance or darker media? No. It just means people should not be surprised or upset when those works are critiqued.
It would be to see other people's opinions, even if you think the opposite.
