In Search of a New Drama Community & Friends

Hello! I'm J, a 23-year-old law graduate from Malaysia. I've been watching dramas since 2009 (I used to watch Chinese-dubbed K-dramas aired on my country's national tv channels at 8pm every weekday) and subsequently made Dramacool my go-to drama platform. I really enjoyed reading comments and engaging with fellow drama-goers on Dramacool as it had a HUGE community and I even made some friends there. Dramacool gave me a deep sense of belonging, but unfortunately, all good things eventually come to an end, and Dramacool, too, shut down permanently a few days ago :(

Devastated, I embarked on a journey to find a new platform where I could feel the same sense of belonging and somewhere I could find people with similar interests to interact with. I was delighted to find MDL, which also has a large community of drama-goers who actively interact and engage with each other. "This could be it", I excitedly thought to myself. So here I am, seeking to forge new friendships from scratch at MDL. 

I look forward to getting to know y'all better! Where you're from, what you majored in, what you do now, your all-time fav drama, fav genre, fav actor, 1st drama, what got you to watch your 1st drama, ANYTHING! 

Here are some (hopefully) fun facts about myself to get things started.

Fav dramas (coz I can't choose only one): 

• Mother
• Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (The ending ruined me. I still yearn for season 2 even after so many years)
• One Ordinary Day
• Mr. Queen
• The Best Story

 Fav genre: Rom-com (with happy endings, as I'm traumatised by Moon Lovers)

1st drama: Iljimae (starring Lee Joong Gi, I first watched this drama because they aired it on one of my country's national tv channels, and it was the beginning of my love story with Asian dramas)

1st BL: TharnType (experienced culture shock watching this one, but instead of turning away, I dived deeper into the wonderful world of BLs)

Fav actor: Joong Archen Aydin (My fav actor changes often, and Joong is my current obsession. Check out his latest drama, The Heart Killers, it will blow your mind hehe)

Fav actress: Shin Hye Sun (Her acting skills are something else. She consistently picks challenging characters to play (blind ballerina, violinist, etc. and she nails them EVERY SINGLE TIME!)

Hobbies: Crocheting and annoying my two cats :3 but I mainly spend my days watching Asian dramas (Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Thai)

Welcome to the community!! My name is Shii, short for Shifa and I have been a drama watcher for about 8 years of my life now - I started with kdramas in 2016 since my friend recommended it to me. Currently, I'm still in university majoring in Psychology. Here are a few of my interests
(they're quite similar to your current tastes lol)

First kdrama: Boys over flowers
Favorite kdramas: He is Psychometric (crime/thriller, so so interesting), You're all surrounded (an underrated comedy mystery gem) and Crash landing on you (can never go wrong with a star-crossed lovers rom com)
Favorite actress: I loveee Park Shin-hye too! Have you seen her kdrama Sisyphus? I feel like it's kind of underrated since it was a pretty good watch for me and I enjoyed it! I also like Han Hyo-Joo (some of my favorites of hers include W and Happiness).

First bl: Love by Chance (also, I sincerely apologize for tharntype being your first bl, that must have been slightly traumatizing!!)
Currently watching: Heart killers (love itt omgg, firstkhao and joongdunk are killing their roles!), Fourever you (such a cute bl, you should check it out if you haven't already!)

what else? I also watch chinese dramas if that's your cup of tea - I have a preference for historical fantasies like Ashes of Love and The Untamed. 

Hi @Shii !! Oh my, we do have very similar tastes! I like Han Hyo Joo too! 

I haven't watched Fourever You, but added to my list after your recommendation :) I watch Chinese dramas sometimes, and my favs include Word of Honor, Perfect and Casual and Dating in the Kitchen. The Untamed  has been in my watchlist for ages, but for some reason, I haven't watched it yet. Probably should do it soon

I also love Mr. Queen, it's a super hillarious fun ride. And The Best Story is so beautiful and solid. As for Moon Lovers, it's indeed one of the saddest. I cried so much for Baekhyun and his wife and for the one who sacrificed her life for IU, a palace maid or similar and also for IU.

All-time fav drama: Hotelier and Long Vacation (rewatching them so many times until around 7-10 years ago)

Fav TV show: Culinary Class Wars, Nana Tour with Seventeen, and Young Actors' Retreat

Fav BL movie: Lan Yu, The Paradise of Thorns, and Your Name Engraved Herein (upcoming GMMTV's drama with GemFot seems to have similar plotline with this movie, but I hope the ending will be different)

Fav genre: don't really mind the genre as long as I love the main actor/actress, but if I don't recognize anyone I mostly watch comedy.

Fav actor: there's many, my top #1 for now is Cheng Yi (just completed Deep Lurk late last year, it's a suspense spy period drama with a lot of actions and mind-games)

Fav actress: there's many, my top #1 for now is Yang Zi (just completed Flourished Peony last month, it's a must-watch female empowerment historical drama and a friend said the Tang dynasty's hanfu/costumes and hairstyles are very accurate but the buildings are not right-interesting)

1st drama: can't remember, but it should be one of Jin Yong's Hong Kong adaptation; maybe Legend of The Condor Heroes, Return of The Condor Heroes, or Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre.

 Hana:

Hi, Hana here. I am also 23, from India. I mostly watch Thai dramas (BL and Non BL). The most recent drama and my current fav that I have watched is Jack and Joker. SOme of my all timefavs are Bad Buddy, KinnPorsche, The Shipper, P.S I Hate You, Friendzone etc.
