Watched Shoplifters which was by one of my favourite directors, Hirokazu Koreeda, and it's really a beautiful film (give it 10/10) but don't watch it if you're looking for something happy/light. I love how Japanese movies are so realistic and how well they do slice of life/drama.

Definitely an art film.  I think it won some awards.  Although MDL tags this as a romance, it really isn't.  The themes here are grief and loss and how one goes on from those experiences.   The film is very slice of life - almost painfully so.   For me, a film or drama in this vein has to be powerful to make it worth it.  This film didn't reach that level although it is very well acted and pretty to look at.

Just watched Kiyosu Conference the other day....not bad movie with great character portrayals by the actors....but might need some basic knowledge on Japan history before watching

Watched it after reading the manga. It turns out into a plain - common - type of rom-com. But the female lead played the character very well... I think it's her who saved the movie lol. But overall it was nice.

I like it. Idk about the anime, some people said it wasn't as sentimental as the anime so I've no comparison. Cinematography and music are great. I'd say, it's beautiful, sweet, and sad at the same time.

Watched Japanese Girls Never Die and really liked it. It's a film with a strong message.
