[Discussion] Queen In Hyun's Man

I really enjoyed the ending. I felt it was perfect and sweet. :D Now I'm going through Boong-Do withdrawal.

I understand why some people might not like the ending of the drama (being so conveniently tied up with a pretty pink ribbon happy ending to keep the fans happy)......I know why the writers did it cos a lot of fans hate tragic endings & go on crazy rants when that happens lol

I for one would have been happy with a sad/poignant ending with both of them never meeting each other again it would have been tragic but ultimately more powerful & memorable.

That said, I still gave this drama a 10/10... why?? because everything else about this drama I absolutely adored. From the cast, chemistry, writing, acting, music etc...& yeah the "how on earth did he get back to present question" is a little annoying but I guess the answer is true love prevails (& also that mobile phones battery seems to be infinite hahahaha)

I get your point, and on other occasion I would have probably agree with you , on the sad ending. But I think that with the way the drama was written from the beginning not letting them meet would have been a total let down not only to the fans , but also to the story in itself. And as for how he was able to come back they did explain it , thought I had quite a laugh at the ringing phone lol how did they manage to have ring when cellphone tower were not even invented yet.
But we have to say that this was so much a better ending than RT with all the being reincarnated with all his memories crap.

And I'm lmao at the fact that I'm starting to understand how directors feel , because we fans are never happy lol when we get a sad ending we wine and same thing when we get a happy one, thought I may say that they are some crap happy ending out there... big example *HARRY FREAKING POTTER WHY DID HE NOT DIED ALONG WITH VOLDEMORT hein because if I still understand english they needed both to DIE* Well coming back to normal Lie to me I had big murderous envy with the ending like seriously the drama started to go down by episode 9 but they had somewhat redeem it by ep 11 ... but then he went down again... anyhow good job Queen In Hyun's Man.

Okay so I am half way through and enjoy it so far but... after they said he died of sickness when he was at Jeju all I can think is that if someone went through time they would die from diseases. I mean the microbes and diseases have changed so when he went back to his normal time he would spread the disease and everyone would die... maybe I am being too logical...

I'm watching it again. I've never repeated a drama this early after watching it for the first time.

*comes up for air after dramathon* Okay, tis a good drama... still the disease thing bugs me. And what was with the horse jumping over the wall in the first episode, I thought that was like a fast-forward flashback thingy but it never happened again. Still one of the best dramas this year and the leads had great chemistry, hope their relationship lasts.

I agree. The ending is unadulterated fan-service, that's a fact, but the tone of the drama has been light-hearted from the beginning, a tragic ending would have been totally out of place.

This said, I can't deny at being a little (make it a lot) taken aback by the shower of 10 this drama got. Oh, I've been an advocate of it in the beginning, I went out recommending it to whomever I met. Then I had to put it on hold for unrelated reasons and when I picked it up again, by episode 11, I had to struggle in order to complete it. Once the spell was broken - also read the hormones got back to a normal level - the drama showed its colours to me: a pretty thing, very enjoyable, with a ton of plot nonsense.

Obviously it all boils down to how and why we give a drama a full 10. If "Masterpiece" means "I loved it because it gave me the perfect feeling", there's nothing to debate, or even discuss: it's everyone's right to decide what masterpiece means in their vocabulary.
To me, however, a masterpiece in the drama genre means outstanding acting, direction, plot consistency, depth, production values. In this sense, please don't kill me cruelly, Queen Inhyun's Man is as far from a masterpiece as a Harlequin romance is to literature.

The two leads are wonderful together, I'm with you all, their kisses are epic, their love story is sweet and thrilling, and I am ready to give the highest credit to the writer for FINALLY creating a couple of intelligent people: a super smart guy who is also a gentleman and a daring, witty, clever girl who isn't passively subjected to events but makes them happen.
If there were a mark to give to single characters, these two would get a full A.

Their acting though isn't spectacular, the music was ok but it consists of a couple of average pieces, and, most of all, the plot is so full of small and big logic holes the only reason why we are all willing to overlook them is because we liked to watch those two kissing. In fact, this good-natured tolerance towards the glaring inconsistencies is a proof in itself.

This is obviously my opinion, and I repeat that I can't discuss how the rating of a drama is decided by each. However, it bugs me a little when a drama ends up top of the list and I daily read people declaring that they chose to watch a show because it has high marks.

I agree with you about the plot holes & inconsistencies in QIHM I said as much earlier in this thread.

However, I am one of those people who have given this drama a 10 not because I consider it to be a masterpiece in way shape or form.....my view is purely subjective I do judge a drama on acting, writing, directing, editing, music, plot consistency etc but I also factor in the way that drama made me feel at the time i watched it ....this is very important to me.

I have watched plenty of "excellent" oscar winning films which left me cold...I cant deny that the criteria I mentioned (acting, writing, directing, editing, music, plot consistency etc) were not ably executed but for whatever reason that piece of work left me emotionally unmoved...therefore, I would not remember or look back fondly after I had finished it....

So in conclusion a 10 from me isn't that I think the film/drama is perfect. A 10 from me means the acting, writing, drirecting, editing, music, plot consistency were of a good enough standard (not necessarily excellent or flawless) AND that I was moved by the film/drama.

I imitate you, RF, and instead of quoting your post, I'll simply address it. :)

I respect your opinion and your criteria. It's your right to value a work of fiction the way you want, and I too add that extra point to a drama or a movie when it moved me, or in general it made me feel intensly - so a drama which would be 9 for all its production values is added a point if I loved it for the above mentioned reasons.
I commented because I was, as I said, surprised by the number of 10s, but hey, to each their own. I'm not writing a review because there is already one which describes my impressions to a T.

I really like the way they are handling this time jump thing and Boong Do's reaction to the 21st century. Things confuse him but it's almost as if he uses his brain like the computer/investigator that he is and assesses and catches on then assimilates. It isn't handled as silly slapstick (Rooftop Prince) or glossed over in a choppy manner. I am only just starting episode 4 but already I am liking the acting, plot and chemistry of the two leads.

Hmmm interesting! I am on episode 9 and I love the sort of mirror reversal of memory loss. For Boong Do he lost his memory and for Hee Jin it seems as if it is everyone else around her... (I need to watch the rest but had to come and post that) I am so loving this drama! And how cute is it, they are dating in real life! hope it lasts.
