so far this drama is different from regular cliched k dramas... that doesn't mean this drama is non cliched at all ... but the relationship between the main leads is not a common one we see usually in k dramas... what they say before each other n think in their hearts is so different ..n they seem to understand each other so well that they realize the hidden intentions or feelings behind each other's actions ... may be they can do that becoz they were together before... but on the other hand ... it does not make sense even more why did they got seperated first ?? anyway this drama keeps me glued no matter what
They separated because Hyung Joon got the "big" head; he wanted Ji Young to (in a way) conform to what he considered "smart" or "accomplished"--that is, that she would go to college and have a successful occupation. Ji Young never wanted to attend college (whether this was completely about studying or about her background/economic level, I'm not entirely sure) and thus, to Hyung Joon, who attended one of the prestigious universities, she was just another not-"smart" person.
It may not make a lot of logical sense in terms of how we think, and I'm certainly not defending Hyung Joon's attitude toward Ji Young in that regard, but I think Hyung Joon acted a bit in self-preservation. He thought that being with Ji Young would possibly make him "less" to his classmates. It's a stupid thought, but when has Hyung Joon (up until that point) been completely selfless. I think that even now, he's not completely selfless, though I think he understands that he made a huge mistake.
