Is the backstory for Kim Young Kwang's character the history of Korea's corrupt prosecution and judiciary during the dictatorship that led to the Gwangju Uprising?
I felt that way especially because the church is a sanctuary for our 'freedom fighters' here, which is derivative of how Myeongdong and many other cathedrals acted as a sanctuary for pro-democracy protesters in Korea during the dictatorship. I thought the connection was a subconcious one seeing as many Kdramas also have evil prosecutors and church as a safe place. But the backstory, I believe was an explicit reference to the freedom movement struggles of Korea.
