@liddi
Thanks liddi for the clarification!
Honestly, this is the first time i've encountered such a stressful drama adaptation. Novel and drama are serving different poisons (pun).I might ending up traumatized by this whole thing. Since this is my first TH's drama adaptation and knowing she's also the screenwriter... she needs to stay away far from me.
Yes, there is so much drama outside of the actual drama itself, which is mind-boggling.
Actually 步步惊心 Scarlet Heart - her very first novel, and 2011 adaptation only breaks the heart, but did not have all this off-set drama and so much fan wars, at least not that I am aware. Do check it out - it will shatter your heart for a long time after the drama ends, but it was exactly the reason why I fell in love with Tong Hua's works. Unfortunately, adaptations of her other novels have been a disappointment for me until Lost You Forever 12 years down the road.
Some of them are totally looking at our threads and judging everything we say. Like this. I'm so sorry but it's the truth XDElise:
I'm probably giving them some ammunition with the way I go on about smutty fanfiction :-)
*Shame on you for supporting that toxic abuser. Liking characters like XL is the reason why girls end up in toxic relationships. I hope you meet a XL in real life one day :) *Elise:
I will never understand turning things personal like this. Just because we preferred the love rival of their fictional character? Why so serious?
Xiao Yao got so frantic she hooked her arms around his legs and jumped up to pounce on him, using her body to tightly grab him and pull him down again.Elise:
Xiang Liu jerked Xiao Yao into his arms and bit down on her neck in one move. Xiao Yao’s body shivered and then she fell slack, docilely nestled into Xiang Liu to accommodate him.
Xiao Yao rested her head on his neck and closed her eyes, feeling only the rising and falling of the tides around her.
It wasn’t clear how much time passed when Xiang Liu stopped drinking her blood. Xiao Yao drowsily opened her eyes “You can drink more, I’m fine."
Xiang Liu stopped drinking and lifted his head to stare quietly at the sleeping Xiao Yao in his arms.
We were discussing in the other thread that this whole scene was written as a euphemism for lovemaking. So, of course, they cut it from the drama. Can't have anything to suggest Xiao Yao having more than "just friends" feelings for Xiang Liu to undermine the chosen ship.
I am not sure that it is as much optimism as it is fervent hope. When my child was much younger, their friend once told them that if they kept writing down what they want often enough, it would come true, so...liddi:
Does this mean that if I write down "I want Xiang Liu" thousands of times, he will show up at my doorstep just in time for Christmas? *off to search for pen and paper* :-)
I don't know if I will watch season 2 as it airs. Might have to wait until all the episodes are released to marathon and get my misery over with in one sitting.
Thanks for the information on his new Tong Hua's penned drama. Sounds interesting. As much as I would like to see him in a sweet, fluffy romance to help with Xiang Liu's ending, I would be really interested in seeing TJC in a more serious, angsty modern romantic drama. He would kill it, IMO.
The word is 快感 and it can mean different things (excitement, pleasure) in different contexts, but in this instance, it definitely refers to sexual pleasureliddi:
Yes. If you noticed that Tong Hua didn't use this word to describe any of YaoJing's intimate scenes. We talked a lot about Tong Hua's being deliberate with her words and using subtext etc. If I were to over-interpret this, I can say that this means that XiaoYao didn't get to the same "state" with Jing as she did with Xiang Liu, which shows that her feelings for him are more "liking" rather than love and that is why the Lovers Bugs didn't turn. But my reasonable side says that this is way too forced :-).
I feel like we're in the wrong thread for this discussion :-)
I honestly don't understand the attacks that are hurled. Their ship is the one that gets to sail to a happily ever after, so why feel so threatened?liddi:
It is, like you said, they feel threatened. Xiang Liu will always be the ghost that haunts the YaoJing pairing. All the things that Xiang Liu did to ensure the "happily ever after" are just reminders of his presence in their relationship. It looks like the drama will make the Jingers happy; they already minimized the 37 years (a lot of YaoLiu fans were unhappy with this) and now they will eliminate more with Season 2. So the Jingers get the drama, and the YaoLiu fans get the novel. Maybe then the fan war will stop.
Just popping this here to break up the wall of text as we're not in the academic thread :-)
Thanks to nathsketch and Elise for the tutorial on posting GIFS. I finally succeeded.
ETA: OMG, it's so big!!

Yay!! Good job!!
Let's not forget that they already took away the multiple times Xiang Liu gave air to Xiao Liu during their underwater stroll after the lovers bug was planted in him; and the 37 years of him kissing her to feed his essential blood into her mouth, then biting her neck to suck the poison in his blood out of her; and hugging her tightly every time he healed her; sleeping with her every night for 37 years.liddi:
We have been robbed. They have taken everything nicer between XY and XL to make TJ the ultimate good guy and the lead. someone XY should come to like because of his behaviour. But from what I have observed TJ's love is so possessive and jealous, when he doesn't have the courage to speak up against the wedding arrangement. All the while XL was silently protecting XY and never letting her cry or suffer. He was silent but tried to tell his love through his own words.
I don't think so. He hatched from an egg. No parents that he knew of. The only family that he knows in hundred of years is Gong Gong and the resistance army. Is it any wonder that he wouldn't/couldn't abandon them ?HeadInTheClouds:
Wasn't there a rumour that XY's real father was Shen Nong or something? So then she belongs to the country of Shen Nong and Xiang Liu is its leader.
HeadInTheClouds:
I beg you to please stop with all the Xiang Liu's semi-X-rated GIFS. I cannot focus.
This is one obvious scene to base some good smutty fanfiction on 😉. The story would have ended differently. Too bad for everyone except Jing that Xiao Yao is an idiot 😂.
I am focused very well on the gifs.
Please more our Savior Lady Elise
Seriously. I love them because watching the whole series is a bit daunting!
We are should brainstorm a fanfiction idea and get AI to write it for us and see how it turns out. I have read a few AI generated stories and they do seem pretty real in terms of author writing styles etc.

Those gifs were in my dreams last night lol
Nooo, no AI. Let's replace AI with AH. AH is the one we need. I'll try to convince her to write more goodies for us *wink wink*
The following is the synopsis I translated for 滤镜. Does it sound similar to The Beauty Inside? In any case, the synopsis is interesting, so I am looking forward to it. Wonder whether they will have 3 different people portray the 3 different personas. Can't imagine Li Landi portraying all three of them, particularly Quan Shengtang...liddi:
Not really, just the shapeshifting of the FL. In The Beauty Inside kdrama, the shapeshifting is not a choice by the FL through a bracelet but a curse she was born with to shapeshift for a week every month. And the ML has face blindness, not actual blindness. I don't know how I feel about a FL who has a guy who is going blind falling in love with her and she continues to willingly choose to fool him and others...hopefully, she tells him the truth early on but if it's in the romcom genre the reveal she is multiple people might be dragged out and played for laughs, in which case it doesn't strike me as funny but rather callous to put someone who is losing their sight through that even if the FL is using the shapeshifting to do good deeds or whatever (although cdrama screenwriters are notoriously insensitive about disabilities and disabled/differently abled people often using it as plot devices or "attractive trauma" to lend faux depth of characterization). The angst and melodrama potential is high, I suppose, and that's the reputation Tong Hua and her work has in China.
I think TJC's role in the film Again and Again might be that of an artist who is losing his sight...and I think his character in ShaPoLan also was blind or partially blind, I'm curious why he has continued to pick somewhat similar roles. I mean, I guess he wants the challenge of playing a blind guy and I'm sure he will do a great job, but...well, I'm not his manager or in charge of his career choices...some of his more recent project picks have bemused me and I'll just leave it at that.
I honestly don't understand the attacks that are hurled. Their ship is the one that gets to sail to a happily ever after, so why feel so threatened? Of course, if Xiang Liu had chosen not to wake Xiao Yao up at the end of the 37 years in time for her to go and save Jing; or if he had chosen not to save Jing after Hou's attack on him and waking him up in time, there would be no happily ever after to speak of. Instead it would be one very dead Jing, one very dead Xiang Liu and Xiao Yao living the rest of her life as the newly minted Royal Mother. Perhaps only then would the fanwars stop?liddi:
If you are willing to put on your hazmat suit and take a look at their thread, you'll see the kind of stuff they say about us. Every day there's some insult being thrown around in the midst of those fugly edits they call art. It's nightmare-inducing.

It would work, though I'm not as sure I can hold out that long. Most likely I'll still end up streaming every new episode as it airs.

Oops. Will keep such discussions in the other thread then!
Maybe then the fan war will stop.HeadInTheClouds:
Really wish that we can all get along. Looks like we'll need more pen and paper.

I think I'll pass. I get enough pain as it is just from the novel and thinking about the leaked script. No need to add to it with further unnecessary stress. Just give me S2 and put me out of (or compound to) my misery... gah... just give me closure already, one way or another!

I already started buying more paper, 'cause you never know.
These comments are making me anxious. I need to start manifesting some things. And soon. LOL
I found an interesting comment from zhihu. Someone said this:
And I want each of our willows(XL name) stand up and not be rubbed on the ground. Tu Shanjing's role is tailored for Xiaoyao, not for readers, and he is funny to the end. You can like his gentleness and consideration, but don't ignore his fatal shortcomings. The bottomless kindness itself is the greatest evil.
