Kokuto:
This has been the source of so much screaming at my TV. How can XY think Jing fufills her criteria? He's been unreliable since what, episode 4? when he ghosted her after saying he'd back her up against CX and A'Nian.
It's her "psychological deficiencies" which makes her desperate and blinded her.
You know that Maya Angelou's quote: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." ? Yeah, XY needs to read some Maya or get some good girlfriends to knock some sense into her. And it wasn't just once, it was a few times. He may have good intentions, but his will and ability just doesn't match up. If XY relies on Jing, she'll end up dead. Jing is no different from her human's family, he needs her and relies on her. And that's how XY likes it, it's part of her "psychological deficiencies". So healthy, this relationship!!

Kokuto:
Heh. I wonder about Tong Hua's affection for YaoJing too. There's the whole mirroring of XY being trapped, tortured and depowered by the 9 / 8 Tailed Fox as a child, and then her relationship with Jing, a 9 Tailed Fox. All the "XL is an abuser and Stockholm Syndrome" posters, completely ignore this blatant parallel between the 2 foxes.
I haven't forgot about this post of yours, btw. I'm working on a response to it right now. Needless to say, I agree with the parallel that you pick up.

Kokuto:
NGL, when I first read that quoted material, I thought XL was the source of the 'devasted power' also. But I can live with it being Jing. Like you said, Jing needs something to do. But XL got there first with aid, even if he wasn't there physically.
Whoever this power belongs to is not the hill that I'm willing to die on. Xiang Liu has enough going for him that he doesn't really need this. Jing can have it. Considering his overall performance when it comes to competence and following through, he needs all the help that he can get :-). I will maintain though, that XY loves XL and only ever likes Jing and that's why the Lovers Bugs never turned. This is probably one of the biggest changes for me on re-reading the novel.
