If both, in Hyena, the ML, and most of the rest of the characters, are Type A, cutthroat lawyers who are out for themselves. They prioritize winning over people.
I wonder if Love Like the Galaxy Part 1 and Part 2 would work for you? The ML is revenge-driven, and it's a major source of conflict in the relationship.
