Quantcast

So not too long ago I finished my first Korean family drama, one of those that they play on weekends and tend to have around 50 to 100 episodes. It was Beautiful Love, Wonderful Life.

I want something that feels similar. A weekend drama with 50 to 100 episodes more or less.

Requirements:

  • Has to have good , substantial romance on it like BLWL did.  With OTP's that have chemistry all throughout the show.
  • Likeable characters. Especially the female lead/leads.
  • Happy ending.
  • I know draggy plot is sometimes unavoidable with these kind of dramas but the more bearable the plot is the better.

Preferences (I would love if these were met but I don't want to be too picky)

  • I know BLWL had it but please, if possible, one that doesn't have a plotline about cheating where one of the main  in the OTPs is involved.
  • There might be multiples couples but I like when the male lead falls in love first/harder.
  • The male lead pursues the female lead.

I've seen people recommending Five Children or Five enough but  I don't like Hye soon and Sung hoon's romance, I know it seems to fit my criteria but the whole plotline with her best friend and her crush getting together irks me and I don't like Hye Soon's character, she seems weak , not too smart and way too kind. So please avoid things similar to this.

I like female characters like BLWL Seol in Ah's character, Cheong Ah, though she liked the guy first she is smart and independent, not clingy. She was good hearted but not a  pushover.

I don't mind spoilers on the recommendations, so please let me know a little about the show you recommend, like who ends with who and stuff. I don't want surprises, I just wanna chill and relax while watching.

Thank you to anyone who reads this and tries to recommend!!!

Congratulations fellow drama watcher for watching your first family weekend drama!!!

I am a big fan of family dramas. I still consider myself new to them.

BLWL is indeed a lovely drama. I have not finished it yet (cuz I don't finish dramas anymore for the time being), but I have seen few good family dramas that I loved.

My favourite ones are:

This is popular on MDL and totally deserves the hype. Really charming. Perfect for chilling and relaxing. Funny sometimes, and so lovely.

Packed with emotions. A drama that stole my heart. Shin Hye Sun acts in this one. I didn't like how weak her character seemed in Five Enough, and It wasn't a 'strong' one in My Golden Life but her acting was just WOW. I cherish this drama a lot.

I recently watched this and it felt like this drama gave me life after a heart break caused by another drama. All the couples are the best. I don't know which one to long for more.

You can also try:

All About My Mom The secondary couples are the cutest! Everyone is cute!

What Happens to My Family? Really funny!

Marry Me Now

I really love family dramas because I can start watching them easily. They manage to  get me out of drama-slumps because they are slow-paced.

One precious advise I can give you is to not to watch them like a short drama. But to watch them while doing something without too much thought and focus if they don't get your attention at first. Slowly, with time, the drama will creep its way into your heart. This way always worked for me.

The thing they all have in common in that they all make you feel attached to them and you get to know the characters very well. It is all about the sincere family values.

Thank you!! I've been watching dramas for 3 years now but I never delved into the world of weekend family dramas successfully until BLWL.

I've heard a lot about My Father is Strange, but I was scared by the hype. I'll give it a chance now since you recommended it. I'll also keep an eye out for the other recs. Thanks again!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about Hye Sun's character in Five Enough.  I have no problem with the actress, I like her, but her character wasn't my taste.

And I'll follow your advise, actually that's why I want a drama like this, to enjoy but not think too much and watch whenever I don't feel like concentrating in a complicated plot, I would watch a weekly drama for that.

And I agree, that is their charm, I got surprised when I realized how much I had gotten attached to the characters in BLWL.

THANK YOU!! <3 <3
