Quantcast

I've seen plenty of dramas, especially Chinese, where the ML is a prince or emperor and he has to act like he doesn't care about the FL because his other concubine's or royal mother or father or whatever belongs to powerful families, and if he acts like she's preferential or whatever it will cause her more harm.... I'm curious is there a drama where the ML doesn't act like an idiot and where we see what the consequences is when he does try to protect her and dotes on her and where she's officially preferentially favored?

I always end up thinking: come on! your status is so high just kill, assassinate, or whatever you opposition... I'm so tired of these so called good guys who goes by the law or by politics or filial practice or by the example of previous emperors or whatever... give me a bad ml who's truly a bad ml who puts the FL above all else the rest of the world be damned..

if you can't think of a drama then a web novel is okay too.

Or if you can think of a drama where the male lead is not a nobel idiot in general that is okaytoo :)

thanks :)

(if you don't know what a nobel idiot is. it's basically a ml who breaks up or ignores the FL because he thinks she will find happiness without the ML)

These are all historical:

  • The King's Woman - The ML's first priority is to have the FL by his side (regardless of her feelings) and his second priority is to put her above everything else - "the rest of the world be damned".
  • Sound of the Desert - The SML has plenty of noble idiocy. The ML, on the other hand, is 100% committed, even when pretty much the entire royal family is pressuring him to marry other women at different points in the drama.
  • Love in the Moonlight - The FL has all the noble idiot moments.
  • The Romance of Tiger and Rose - The FL has all the noble idiot moments.
  • The Story of Ming Lan - The SML gives in to pressure from the royal family to abandon the FL and marry someone else. He mainly does this to protect himself and his family, but also tells himself he is protecting the FL. The ML calls him out for abandoning and not fighting hard enough for the FL, then pursues the FL himself with no noble idiocy.
  • Lost Love in Times - The FL has the noble idiot moments.
  • The Legends - Whether he's a powerless outcast or a very powerful sect leader, the ML's always been 100% head over heels for the FL and always favours her / gives her whatever she wants. He doesn't care about protecting his position, pressure from within or from outside the sect to act differently, or his own literal internal demon. Putting the FL first is always his priority.
  • Empress Ki - It's been ages since I watched this one, but iirc the SML isn't always able to fight for the FL but the ML always intervenes to protect the FL no matter the consequences.

The King in Love  prince is ready to drop everything for her, but this isn't main plus of this show, this is best chemistry I've seen in asian dramas, great acting, no cliches, unpredictable, beautiful main leads and beautiful cinematic scenes, music, every detail, very realistic, true and beautiful story, body language, complex feelings and characters(not only leads, every character is multilayered, not black or white).

it's a triangle love story (prince, his best friend and beautiful, strong, smart, really interesting girl), but not that kind we are used to, when you know who is endgame and second lead is just someone who loves one sided, you will kind of ship both of them, both have unique chemistry, both are good interesting, but then you will choose, so will FL and chemistry is crazy,  every detail is perfect and will not disappoint you. I even rewatched twice... just try 2-3 episode and then you will love it.

thanks! I've seen a few but I'll definitely check out the king's woman.

I just remembered I watched a Thai drama a few years ago where the FL goes back in time through a mirror and the ML  physically stops her from going back. Just wow! I don't think even I could do that, which is just awesome and bad to my liking!  I don't remember if I liked it or not but that scene was just awesome it felt so wrong and right at the same time, think it was Tawipob. So if anyone is looking for something similar check it out.

Ashes of Love- ML show his affection openly which cause a lot of trouble

Legend of Fu Yao - When the ML finally fall in love this her he loves her with all his heart and all consequences
