Quantcast

lately i've been really in the mood for a good slow burn romance. something where you can see the characters develop feelings for each other in a heart-fluttering way; whether they're going from coworkers to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, whatever -> i just find the build-up of romance so entertaining.

i don't have a preference for genre, it can be rom-com or melo or anything, just please recommend something where they get together before the last episode so we actually get to see them act as a couple. it's like my biggest pet peeve when you spend the entire drama in angst waiting for them to confess their feelings and then you don't get to enjoy it when they do because the drama ends lol. like i just finished Wannueng Jaa Pben Superstar and there was all this incredible angst and you could tell they had feelings for each other and they knew it too but they didn't actually get together until the last episode and it was so unsatisfying, and now I need something to fill that hole. the same thing happened with Dr. Romantic 2 earlier this year, like i loved the dynamic as ex-competitors in med-school to falling for each other as coworkers, but the last episode fell flat. i was hoping The World That They Live In would do the trick but i'm dumb and missed the "past lovers" tag when i picked up the drama so my craving to watch someone fall in love still hasn't been satisfied.

these aren't exact examples of what i'm looking for, but something like: A Poem A Day, Age of Youth, Beautiful Love Wonderful Life, Because This Is My First Life, Cinderella and Four Knights, Fight For My Way, I'm Not A Robot, Melting Me Softly, Shining Inheritance

to see if they fit what you're after

  • Into the Ring - currently airing; loving how the drama is developing their progress to lovers from childhood friends
  • Weightlifting Fairy - friends to lovers; light hearted, college romance with great female friendships
  • Live Up To Your Name - FL initially dislikes the ML and thinks he's crazy/annoying
  • Life On Mars - romance isn't the focus, but the ML is the first male to treat the FL with respect; it's mostly admiration at first, but they slowly develop a deeper relationship
  • Thirty But Seventeen - ML is annoyed with FL at first and FL thinks he's mean, but eventually, the leads help each other heal from their past trauma
  • 9 End 2 Outs - best friends to lovers
  • Tamra the Island - ML hates being sent to Jejudo and is an asshole to everyone, but the FL breaks through his cold exterior; FL initially likes someone else, but eventually falls for ML; first 2-3 episodes are terrible, but it's worth it

thanks for the help! i haven't seen most of these, and leh ratree and the romance of tiger and rose in particular are some i've had my eye on for a while.

I wouldn't classify Go Go Squid as slow burn...

I recommend:

The Story of Ming Lan - it gets really good towards the back

Because of You

Battle of Changsha - gets better towards the back, not romance heavy but worth watching
