@Joanie, it won't let me quote you sorry. But several characters in Dashing Youth do refer to Wen Rensun as Ye Dingzhi's best friend. One of the people calling WRS as YD's best friend was even Baili Dongjun himself! It's very fresh for me since I'm watching Blood of Youth now. The eps these convos take place in are early in the series, like ep 6 or 7-ish (not sure since I'm passed that now)
I don't see how that is possible since Ye Dingzhi didn't actually meet Wen Rensun until later on in Dashing Youth (at around Ep 35). If you're saying he's referred to as his best friend in ep 6 - 7ish of Blood of Youth, then that makes way more sense. The descrepency that we're referring to is mostly with Dashing Youth not fully depicting their relationship this way(since the Blood of Youth series was released first). Dashing Youth suggest a massive retcon, and more implies Baili Dongjun is YD's best friend. Wen Rensun has a very minor role in the series(Dashing Youth), and barely has any significant interaction with YD. But that may have more to do with YD's 'years in exile/living as a hermit' mostly being skipped over. Which is where their relationship took place.
Edit: Sorry, I just read my old post you replied to and realized that I had said I don't recall WR being mentioned as YD's best friend. So yes, I've since gone back after making that post and seen that he was indeed called his best friend. It's entirely possible this becomes the case within the context of the story since YD and BDJ have a falling out in their relationship. So while the viewers can see that they are best friends, BDJ may no longer see it that way out of guilt, and the others around them might not believe it since they had become enemies. In Blood of Youth YD's death and the relationships were mostly a mystery to the public.
