Max Pasakorn said it recently in one of his shorts:

"Thai entertainment is made for Thai audiences first"

I think that's something that cannot be said often enough -- going by what I've seen in the last years here on MDL, whether it's comments, reviews and even posts in feeds, many Western viewers still don't understand that.
Thai TV culture has its own traditions, references, jokes, tropes, and ways of storytelling.
(Yes, that includes sound effects in comedy)

And no, they should NOT conform to YOUR taste.
We Westerners are NOT the target audience.

And that's as it should be.
