Hi you all, have you seen The Spirealm? It's dark. The two male mainleads are very caring of each other. And you don't know what will happen. As an escape game like story it's gory and filled with horror elements. But I like this relationship between the leads and go back often to watch some episodes again.
mei:
The lack of romance is very fine by me and when it comes to humour what really gets a laugh out of me is the delivery rather than the joke itself (I repeated so many scenes in Joy of Life because of this).
It's really all about facial expressions and tone of voice. I'm a simple soul like that.
then nice! you might enjoy it like I did then 🫶 is joy of life good? I haven't watched it because I thought it was full of seriousness but you mentioned you laughed because of some scenes there.

Joy of Life doesn't look good. The editing is terrible, the shots even worse (as if they didn't know how to use a camera) and the colouring is pretty bad. So, if you base your liking of a drama also on how pretty it looks, don't even start this one.
But, if you don't mind poor aesthetic and cinematography, do give it a try.
The characters are amazing and all in all have dimension and motivations and are pretty well acted (love how clever and scheming some of them are), the references to the future and Chinese literature are just so well thought through (JoL is probably the best at doing this) and the balance between comedy and seriousness is almost perfect and just flows so well. I was also expecting a 100% serious drama going in, but it actually has quite a few comedic moments.
I did start Guardians of the Dafeng, but so far the comedy feels rather forced. Like, I know I'm supposed to be laughing at x point, but it gives me nothing.
But I'm loving the story and how everything looks so far, so definitely won't drop it.

I keep seeing that title popping up, but I never gave it too much thought. Is it worth a watch?

I say definitely yes! I like the idea of a game that trows you in several game realities. and you never now where you will find yourself next. But there is the problem that I do not watch most dramas to the end. I hate endings. 😭
To write a more fitting answer for you I went to your Profile and found your rating system, but you don't write there, what you like story-wise. With the exemplary dramas there, I would recommend to you Sword Snow Stride and Word of Honor. I liked Joy of Live but couldn't go further because of the mist around the first meeting with Lin Wan Er. I don't like such things plot-wise. Though it is still on my list.

You hate endings... are you perhaps the Doctor? (niche reference I guess lol)
Word of Honor was probably my second or third c-drama and I'm planning on starting Sword Snow Stride soon. I just need to finish the many dramas I am currently watching first or I'll lose my mind.
I don't have a preference for what I like, story-wise. I don't like romance that much and I prefer dramas with a more serious and mature tone to them, but I really try to watch everything and anything. For me it really is all a matter of how the writing and pacing are and whether I need to turn off my brain to believe whatever is happening in that plot.
By the way, what do you mean by "mist around the first meeting"? As in, it's unclear how and why they met in the first place? If that's the only thing refraining you from keep watching the drama, I'd say give it another try. I don't know what episode you dropped at, but everything has an explanation, you'll just have to be patient.
But, I'll admit, I nearly dropped it as well for the way they treated the romance in the first episodes. The way he was "obsessed" with a girl he only ever met once and for less than five minutes... really not a fan of that. But that was really just a hiccup and the romance never really takes centre stage in the story. One can easily pretend it isn't even there, although they do share a couple of nice scenes together.
But, if you don't mind poor aesthetic and cinematography, do give it a try.meiwatchesdramas:

I actually don't mind poor aesthetic and cinematography...I kinda value good storyline more. Thanks for these info, I will add it to my list and find time to watch it once am done with my current ones!
Oh yes, the first parts of GOTD weren't that great but the latter once more of the story unfolds is better imo. It takes time to get used to the comedy and guess kinda depends on humor too! enjoy watching it!
Hi, right now I'm watching Kill my Sins. It's a very deep drama with a very good story, cast and pace. The turns and twists keep you on the edge of your seats. This is the very first drama that holds me really in a grip after Fangs of Fortune. It's not comparable with FoF but good in every other aspect if you like intense dramas.
I saw someone recommend The Land of Warriors. I recommend Duoluo Continent though I haven't watched it yet because it's a prequel. Main leads is Xiao Zhan. If you like The Untamed, this might be a lot of fun with the same male lead.
As some others have said, I definitely recommend The Blood of Youth and Mysterious Lotus Casebook! The friendship between the characters there is amazing!
And yes, add Dashing Youth to that! Since Neo Hou is in it, it's gonna be a fun ride! Ya gotta try I am Nobody as well! Neo Hou is also in this~ Man, I love all his characters. You'll love them here too.
I also haven't got to watching it yet, but I heard The Lost Tomb series is really good. There's The Lost Tomb 2 with friendship for example. There is even a bromance with Chengyi and Neo Hou which just sounds so much fun (honestly, they're both one of my top favorite actors so I've been wanting to watch this one.) There is also Ultimate Note which is from the same series. It looks like it's the most popular of the series and it sounds like a lot of fun! Have yet to try watching it but I heard only good things about it :)
If I might add, try A Journey to Love! This is true found family. And the comedy here is perfect. You will really come to love every character. I felt so emotionally attached to them. The squad was so fun to watch. I miss them haha~ And you will love the badass main couple! They are such incredibly amazing fighters! They will feel like lowkey the parents of the squad xD It's so fun to watch the gang and their camaraderie.
There is an upcoming series called Shui Long Yin and I heard that it will focus more on the bromance as well but there will be some romance too. This is one of my top highly anticipated dramas so this is a drama I wanted to recommend as well. There are a lot of actors I know here and because of this also, it makes me look forward to watching this even more! The styling and cinematography look amazing! You might wanna check this out when it comes out! Might be in the first half of this year!
Also, let me recommend another upcoming series. Unfortunately it won't come out until the end of the year most likely though. It's Fushanhai / Go to the Mountains and Sea which features Chengyi and Xu Zhenxuan, our Ying Lei Mountain God, so this one is gonna be so much fun to watch! I anticipate on this one a lot! Y'all wouldn't wanna miss out! If you love, Mysterious Lotus Casebook, I'm sure you'll love this one too! Found out it's about the same production crew which can be seen through not just the people working on the drama but the styling, martial arts skills, cinematography, and such. It's a drama to not miss, especially if you've come to love our Ying Lei~ :)
P.S. Just found out this discussion was long ago lol but my reply still stands 😄
Edit: Heard that Fushanhai is (to my shock) possibly airing in the first half of this year actually, but maybe the beginning of the second half)
Nothing can replace FOF. But Dashing Youth and Back from the Brick can be thought of as alternative lives of ZYZ(bc of Neo) where he receives a better? ending.
Mysterious Lotus Casebook and The Blood of Youth are very good friendship, bromance drama. On that note but in modern time I am nobody 1-2 where Neo give a perfect interpretation of the amazing taoist Wang Ye. This is really a must wach for all Neo fan. It is worth even only to look at his scene and fast forward everything else, such is the greatness of this character! Neo really made ZYZ and Wang Ye perfect ! All his hard work can bee seen in there at his best!
+1 for I Am Nobody, Mysterious Lotus Casebook, and Blood of Youth, I can sense some similarity in terms of bromance, wuxia, and some kind of magic/supernatural power.
Chinese Paladin 3 is an old drama but I like it. And I ptw Sword and Fairy 1 which is the remake of Chinese Paladin (1).
Ever Night is impressive. But I haven't watch the 2nd season since there's actor change (Chen Fei Yu to Wang He Di).
Order of Sommelier is pretty good.
And I ptw Fight Break Sphere. My colleague says it has open ending just like Douluo (2nd season cancelled?). It seems to have some similarity with FoF.
Hi people, thank you for your recommendations! Feel free to add more with time! Today I want to recommend to you "The Glory"! It's with Dudu as the Female Lead. And guess people, in it she was outcast as a baby as the cursed barefoot ghost and abandoned to a long distant family friend. It's really good. A revenge story with a very good cast, story and Cinematographie. She is the very clever and scheming FL. There was also a very good fight scene in the forth episode. I'm hooked since watching the first episode. ;-)
