Cinema After Midnight

Cinema After Midnight

For people who watch films and then spend three hours thinking about them instead of sleeping.

A group for people who love cinema beyond the plot. The beautiful frames, the weird storylines, the uncomfortable silences, the questionable characters, and the endings that leave you wondering what the hell you just watched.

What we're into:

• Wong Kar-wai and his lonely people, neon lights, and complicated relationships.

• David Lynch and whatever was going on in his head.

• Andrei Tarkovsky and the art of making three hours feel like a fever dream.

• Park Chan-wook, Yorgos Lanthimos, Satoshi Kon, Lars von Trier, Stanley Kubrick, Béla Tarr, and many more.

• Beautiful cinematography, unusual storytelling, experimental films, and movies that don't spoon-feed you everything.

• Sharing recommendations, discussing favourite scenes, arguing about interpretations, and occasionally pretending we understood the ending.

Basically, if you like films that make you feel something you can't explain, you're in the right place.

A few rules, unfortunately:

1. The admin is weird. We don't know what's wrong with them either.

2. If you say a film is boring because "nothing happens," be prepared to defend yourself.

3. Having an unpopular film opinion is fine. Having a terrible one is also fine. We're here for the arguments.

4. Please don't spoil films. Some of us have lives and haven't watched everything ever made.

5. Recommend films, share your favourite scenes, and talk about whatever's living rent-free in your head.

6. Pretentious film talk is encouraged, but at least pretend you have a personality outside Letterboxd.

7. If your favourite director is Wong Kar-wai, there's a 50% chance you're romanticising loneliness. That's between you and your therapist.

See you after midnight.
