Rejected / Not Acceptable Examples for Titles (Japan)
Contents
The following images must not be used as the main cover image for Japan titles. These submissions will be rejected even if they are commonly seen online, displayed on platforms, or widely reposted.
All general rejection rules apply as described in the Global Rejected / Not Acceptable Examples section. The cases below highlight Japan-specific issues that commonly cause incorrect submissions.
Foreign or Platform Posters Replacing Japanese Release Identity
Rejected examples include:
International or overseas posters used when a Japanese promotional visual exists
Streaming-platform posters replacing Japanese theatrical or broadcast posters by default
Localized marketing visuals that override the original Japanese release identity
In Japan, domestic promotional intent takes priority, regardless of platform visibility.
Production Committee & Market Intent Violations
Rejected examples include:
Posters that do not reflect the official Japanese release intent as defined by:
The broadcaster
The distributor
The production committee
Posters that alter title identity, framing, or positioning for foreign markets
Language alone does not determine validity — official origin and intended Japanese market use do.
Packaging, Box-Set, and Compilation Artwork
Rejected examples include:
DVD / Blu-ray box-set covers used when an original promotional poster or key visual exists
Compilation, anniversary, or reissue artwork that:
Represents multiple titles
Represents a later release cycle
Replaces the title’s original release identity
Packaging designs created for:
Multi-title collections
Season bundles
Promotional campaigns unrelated to the original broadcast or theatrical release
Important Exception
When no original promotional artwork survives, the following are valid and acceptable:
Official Japanese DVD or Blu-ray covers that:
Were commercially released in Japan
Represent a single title
Are period-appropriate
Archival promotional materials such as:
Flyers
Posters
Press sheets
Pamphlets, sourced from auctions, private collections, or archives, provided the material itself is authentic
In Japan, authenticity and historical accuracy take priority over format when no original poster exists.
