Hong Kong Dramas

With violent knives and tender eyes, warm lighting and cheeky lines, and ridiculous fibs and intriguing police ties/gritty triad crimes, Sammy's Children's Day left me wanting . . .

Wanting more!

Because with chemistry this intense AND a story with this much potential, closing the chapter here would be a grave mistake on the part of the creators.

Was the dubbing admittedly egregious at times, and some aspects (such as awkward background actors and disjointed cuts) subpar? Yes. But I still loved it, dammit!

Maybe I am upset at its conclusion, but for me, that just speaks to how good this drama was.

Not as convincing or funny as the Japanese version, but still pretty entertaining.

Tin is more ridiculous here I would say. And, unlike the original, Siu Muk seems a lot more understanding and lenient here. More than he should have to be.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it. But, I still definitely prefer the Japanese Ossan's Love. There was a particular charm and authenticness to it that made me fall in love with it so much.

Note about rating: I'm taking .5 away for the utilization of AI.

Not only did this drama have an interesting premise with action and characters with some serious grit and detail to them, but it also had serious chemistry between the leads! It very much reminded me of Sammy's Children's Day.

These positives being said, I did find the writing to be weak at times, particularly when it came to some underdeveloped side characters. Not to mention the poor sound design and the use of AI for important flashbacks, which sucked all the emotion out of scenes that should have felt heavy to the characters AND viewers.

I generally enjoyed myself when the leads were on the screen, but just . . . Felt they could have done better.

A fine enough short drama with good acting and an interesting theme. Story-wise, it could have used five more episodes though.
