It's the way they focus in on the environment: the humid air, the sound of the breeze and the rain, the scratch of a bench being moved, shadows dancing on the floor . . .

I'm so glad she showed her claws and got her strength back. She is worthy of fighting for herself. And she knows it. As for the ML . . . I was initially thrown off by his carefree attitude about life, but he's got eagle eyes for schemes and seems content to work smartly in the shadows.

So she is an energetic, silly, FL . . . Buuuuuuut she's not an airhead or childish to the point of grating on your nerves. She's actually rather clever in putting clues together and has a way with words. Plus, she's got a good heart. I like her!

The ML is almost villainous in demeanor, but he's not a true "villain" to be redeemed/saved by the FL. He's got priorities (including his sister) and he'll do what must be done to protect what he values, but he won't unleash his anger on just anyone and has moments where he sympathizes with the plight of others. I also (surprisingly) like him!

Now, to see how these two get together and if/how that changes their behavior!

I get that he doesn't seem to have any proof yet that he was forcibly drugged. But it just bothers me so much that he isn't telling his fellow officers what happened. Because he just looks SUPER guilty this way.

It's REALLY reminding me of Secret! Except it feels a little less like torture/trauma-porn. This FL has it rough, but not so rough that it feels unbearable, and she has a bit more of a spine and some tenacity.

The humor is giving early 2000s rom-com meets The Pink Panther movies. Translation: modern romantic scheming meets self-aware/not-self-aware tomfoolery.

For Japanese LGBT+ List

Wait. I think I really like it! 

Just aesthetic/on-the-surface-wise, it's similar to the Takumi-kun franchise, with youth in uniforms, class divides, rampant jealousy/possessiveness, idolization, and dealing with feelings of inferiority/insecurity. But, by God, is it (so far) better at expressing all of those things in every way (also, in a non-toxic way, I might add). This is what the currently airing Takumi-kun drama WANTS to be. 

As to the romance: Our love interest, Tsukasa, is actually quite forward (in his own way), and his supposed cold, cool exterior was very quickly shattered upon getting to know him/witnessing his kindness. Plus, he's taking the shot he was given in a teasing way, and I love him for it! 

And I also love how our popular—F4, if you will—group, while oblivious to just how popular they are and how not normal that is for everyone, are very welcoming guys who make efforts to include/look after our lead, Asahi. 

Also, also, I'm really enjoying how fast-paced the drama is. We build the bit of background we need and then waste no time getting to the school trip where everything happens!

We're off to a good start! Already, you can see the cracks in both our MLs' facades of hating each other.

If you ask me, J has been the one harboring feelings for Jinn for the longest time. I mean, he's the one who really instigates their fights and follows Jinn around as if he's addicted to being near him.

As for our side couple, Java and Surf playing Van and Farm, boy, am I happy! I adored them together in Summer Night and found them to be a real highlight of the drama. Hopefully, after this project, they can get to be leads together because they have potential, I'm telling you!

It's kind of giving light camp. And I like that! Seems like this will be a more comedic version almost of The Proper Way to Write Love. Except, this is less about getting revenge by making someone fall for you and then dumping them and more about being a moving-in-the-shadows, petty person because that's just how you operate in life.

I'm not raving about it like Punks Triangle, but I am invested.

Well, well, well, what do you know? It's downright charming!

I love how Peach just exists, and Thee gets tongue-tied and develops a serious case of silly and heart-eyed. It's only the first episode, and you already get the sense that pursuing Ran is just an excuse for him to spend more time with Peach.

And our iconic bodyguard, Mok? Oh, he is a treat! But you already knew that. He's the perfect well-meaning and knowing wingman for his boss. I love how he subtly nudges him toward Peach because he just knows he's really the one he's interested in. Like, "Oh, I prepared his file . . . Just in case."

So far, tis fun!

A very intriguing start!

It's difficult to pin down Fan Xiao's real motivation behind his actions. Is he just a shit-stirrer deep down? A man who gets what he wants and takes what other people have? But he does seem to have a line or two he won't cross.

You Shu Lang is also very compelling. He doesn't pretend to be some knight coming to the rescue when he partially does one good thing. And if anything, he seems to feed/play into Fan Xiao's games.

Together, they're a naturally combative, fiery pair.

What a stunning intro! Feels like having a vivid dream where you fly out of your bed!

I like how they focus on the details that show Akihito's overwhelm/severe anxiety: the small note tabs on his laptop for projects, using chocolates and liquids as a distraction/grounding measure, needing to sit down and catch his breath/put himself together. They particularly did a great job with the sound design: highlighting how loudly he gulps down his drink, the frantic scrunching of a chocolate wrapper as he rushes to open it.

It's all very suffocating and . . . Terrifyingly fleeting. You get the sense he does everything he can to cope with where he's at. With life.

I'm interested to see where they'll take it.

First off, love the bar and the whole concept attached to it! It feels very much like something I'd see in an odd but comforting, slice-of-life J-Drama.

Jira is a creative who's burnt out and down. Not down bad. Oh, no, not yet. Down desperate (for funds). And I liked how he pulled in and pulled back during his conversation with Ko. You could really see the gears working in his head measuring the value of his safety vs. money.

I swear Gun just gets better and better at his acting craft the more I see him. Because while I was lured in by Ko and his mysterious aura and (of course) want to see where he will lead Jira, I was just as taken with not only Pheem's charming smile and calming presence but the pull of chemistry between him and Jira.

It's all kinds of wrong and really rather disturbing . . . But you can't look away from it.

It's a bit like if Da On (from Secret Relationships) was more "pathetic" to quote Jeong Han (from Thundercloud Rainstorm), never freed himself from the spider's web, and fully fell for the manipulative and crazy possessive you-know-who guy in his life.

I don't know how to feel about it.
