Bad Ending, Worth The Watch
-
1. Black
Korean Drama - 2017, 18 episodes
This one's an absolute cry-fest, and I really enjoyed the story and the characters. It's faults are the lack of explanation or seemingly any concrete rules regarding the powers-that-be in this show. There's intense subject matter, sometimes pointlessly (will mention in spoiler section) which would normally wither my interest (because I'm a baby) but it's so hard to stop watching. I have many spoilers below because I need to vent.
!!!SPOILERS!!!
The pointlessly intense moment I speak of is the death of a dog. It happens off-screen but you see the weapon and hear the awful audio. I assure you I already knew this character was an asshole. I don't know how much more you needed me to hate him. It just makes me hate whoever's decision it was to put that in.
The rules regarding the erasure of someone's existence are so vague or directly contradicted, like at the very end when he just shows up to greet her. It COULD be the case that the powers-that-be erase the existence from even their OWN memories, and thus don't know he's not supposed to exist, but there's nothing to even hint at this. Another issue I have with the erasure is that he and Go-Ara's father's existence were the catalyst for bringing down a big coverup backed by evil, corrupt people. If they never exist, what happens to these people and their victims? Doesn't everything unfold as if they'd never been stopped? And the whole erasure being meant to retain the integrity of reality is dumb as hell. REMOVING them causes MORE disruption, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I'm so pressed about it. It'd be different if they said he just disappeared and everyone forgot him, but they make a point to mention that reality will fill in around where he was as if he was never there.
One last thing I wanna do is just mention that whenever I need to make myself cry, I just think of how the male lead in this show died. It gets me angry-crying in two seconds flat.

2. Secret Garden
Korean Drama - 2010, 20 episodes
This one is a classic, of course. I don't like the lukewarm ending, but it may come from me being someone who would never put up with that situation. It's a good show (the first K-drama I've ever seen with a gay character, though it was a minor role) and even just for the culture, you gotta watch it.
!!!SPOILERS!!!
Grandma better check herself. I ain't bringing my children to some pretentious-ass, classist bitch who will overlook the FL's sacrifices and those of her father, even having the gall to sneer at her. She can mist herself in hell.

3. Bad Buddy
Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
This is technically a good ending, but it bothers me that it could have been BETTER and it's only made not-so because of a stupid character choice. I suppose they were going for something more realistic or unique to this show, as Thai shows can often fall prey to tropes, but I dislike a single minor character's stubbornness and stupidity meddling in the happiness of the main characters.
!!!SPOILERS!!!
The two end up together but under special circumstances, thus they are perpetually in the closet.

4. The Tale of Nokdu
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
I LOVE this show. It's fun and charming and weirdly respectful? Like, it doesn't feel like a man making fun of women. My only beef is THE ENDING. Or rather, just before the ending. The actual ending is technically a "good ending", but at what cost? None of this was necessary. Details below.
!!!SPOILERS!!!
Literally, if they just knew he didn't WANT to be king, nobody would have had to die. This fight at the end where MANY good characters die, is pointless! They literally just end up going "I don't want to be king!" "Oh, really? Okay." and it's over. WHYYYYYYYY????

5. The Heiress
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
Possibly the greatest fumble I've seen in a drama. It was so insanely good to become so insanely bad. I refuse to believe anything that happened after the amnesia was real. She just had a really long nightmare. What's crazy is I would def watch this shit again, just stop once it gets to that part and skip to like the last ten minutes, pretend all those people didn't die and everything worked out the way it should have if the king wasn't the true villain of this story (in hindsight, his stupidity
