New Recs for Melanie
Now that I know you better as a person, I want to create a better-tailored list of shows to recommend, less about what I want you to see and more about how much you'll love them. Knowing you've gotten through some insane dramas lets off the pressure. These will seem like Super Weeny Hut Juniors compared to Kinn-Porsche.

1. Glitch
Korean Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
This would actually be a blast to watch together over Discord or something. It's like a medium-size show, can finish in two to three sittings. Suspenseful, not a tear-jerker if I remember correctly, and I'm an absolute baby so I would remember.

2. I'm Not a Robot
Korean Drama - 2017, 32 episodes
This one is very cute, very funny, romantic, but also emotional. It's a longer one, more like a whole week to digest the plot and there might be tears. Totally worth it, tho.

3. Love in the Moonlight
Korean Drama - 2016, 18 episodes
Visually delightful period drama featuring a totally straight male lead who totally wasn't for a tiny bit attracted to a "man" (a resident of my "Accidental Bisexual" drama list). I suppose this one's a bit long but I always remember it as having flown by. I would say three days or so to watch. I should mention it's a gender bender in that the FL disguises herself as a eunuch,

4. Bromance
Taiwanese Drama - 2015, 18 episodes
This could also be a fun one to watch together, and honestly, there's a second couple I skip every time I watch because it's just kind of boring and long. If we watched together I could just spam skip until they're gone. It's supposed to be a mafia-type show with lots of martial arts but it's really just slightly relevant to the plot. I always say Taiwanese dramas bend reality to suit their characters (i.e. you really have to suspend your disbelief sometimes) but it usually means happy endings for the main characters, so, I don't really care that it's bad writing. This one's also a gender-bender, FL disguised as a boy until her 26th birthday. We also have another accidental bisexual. This one's just so fun and dramatic and stupid. I love it. I also LOVE to hate on the 2nd ML. He's just a loser.

5. My Uncanny Destiny
Chinese Drama - 2023, 24 episodes
The legendary Chinese drama that finally won me over to Chinese dramas as a whole (though I've still only seen a few other I liked). Absolute favorite couple of all time. Not to overhype them but literally how are they so perfect together? This if a fun, vibrant, incredibly acted and written show. I would love to watch it with you if you wanted. The characters are just done so well. Chinese dramas typically run longer and this one is shorter than most, but it's still a good 4-5 day watch.

6. Not Me
Thai Drama - 2021, 14 episodes
This is one of the rarer serious Thai BL's that I've seen. Thai productions are not afraid to go dark so I tend to err on the side of less traumatic, but this one is an exception. It's just a little grittier than I'm used to, but not really gritty at all. I think it's just that the show is visibly dark and the scenarios are serious. It's a hidden identity story in the shape of one twin taking the place of his brother who was beat into a coma in relation to the movement he serves in his gang. I think it's pretty heavy emotionally, like I remember crying a good bit, but loving it the whole time. I think it was a pretty quick watch, 2-3 days.

7. Old Fashion Cupcake
Japanese Drama - 2022, 5 episodes
AAAAAAAAHHHH, this is in my Top 5 BL's, and that's a pretty strict competition. This one if strangely easy to watch for how much I love it. Normally it's really hard to deal with the rush of happiness from watching something I really enjoy, but I think because it's such a comforting and healing drama, it's easy to watch. You can finish it in one night if you aren't a wuss.

8. Semantic Error
Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
My favorite KBL so far. The tension between the leads is insane. You should be able to do lines of this shit. 1-2 days.
-
9. The Beauty Inside
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
If I hadn't awarded the two from Uncanny Destiny with best couple award, it would have gone to these two. It's a subtly supernatural show about an actress who changes appearance for one week every month, appearing as another person entirely: race, sex, age, etc. and a man who developed prosopagnosia (inability to process/recognize faces) after an accident. They're such losers I love them. A beautiful show but also one of those I've cried hardest during. Worth every tear. I've watched this so many times by now. A longer watch for a K-drama, 4-5 days.

10. My Beautiful Man
Japanese Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
Shut up. Just watch this shit. I feel like I should warn you, however, that there is some school-shooter imagery that didn't sit well. It's kind of icky feeling, but they're kind of toxic anyway. There's a second season and a movie after this that I haven't seen yet where they're supposed to get better and become healthy, I guess. For the love of god, this show needs to be in your brain.
-
11. Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
Japanese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
My absolute babies. This is neck-and-neck with my other top BL's. It's extremely beautiful and there's not a single fucking kiss in it. I didn't even notice for the longest time. These straight Japanese Kamen Rider actors are just killing it out here. There was one in Our Dining Table, another great drama. There's a movie that takes place after this show and it is CRIMINAR not to watch it. I feel so stupid for having not seen it for so long. Whole thing is about 3-5 days worth, depending on how often you have to pause while your heart explodes.

12. Takara-kun & Amagi-kun
Japanese Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
The sweetest in the world. I don't always like the high school setting, especially when they gotta do the stupid "we're graduating soon and need to figure out the rest of our lives right now" thing. This show is absurdly cute and easy to watch. You could finish it in one or two nights, easily. I hope there'll be a second season. I just want a cute, cozy little show like this.

13. At 25:00 in Akasaka
Japanese Drama - 2024, 10 episodes
This show is honestly kind of a mess. If you wanted someone to yell with you at the lead, we could watch it together. This is the one with the phenomenal actor in that Tengu show that I can't find any friggin' subtitles for. He honestly is what makes this show. I have some beef with the MC but it's not that serious. I could have done without the sex scene, tbh. I like sex scenes but only if they're amazing and I'm pretty critical of them. It feels so stupid to mess it up. Oh yeah, they're actors starring in a BL, one a well-known star, the other in his first official role. If you wanted a less serious version of this, there's a VERY similar show called BL Drama no Shuen ni Narimashita: Crank Up Hen. That one is pretty cute where this one is kind of intense. It's a 2-3 day watch.

14. Kabe-Koji-Nekoyashiki-kun Desires to Be Recognized
Japanese Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
Strangely heart-warming blend of manga-style humor and weirdly fantastic acting at times. MC is jus a wittle guy who draws gay hentai and used to be classmates with a now-famous idol. One is dark and gloomy, the other bright and happy. It's rather impactful, honestly, and the more times I watch it, the more I love it. This could be fun to watch together if you wanted. 2-3 days.
