Sapphic Representation that ACTUALLY Eats
The often less-represented sect of queer relationships, sappic women don't get as much attention in the media. But these pieces have done an incredible job bringing the stories of women who love women to life; even if they go take the backburner. Not every piece listed fully focuses on wlw, but even minor representation can be deeply impactful and worthwhile.

1. The Handmaiden
Korean Movie - 2016
A classic for a reason; this movie is groundbreaking, beautiful, and chock full of twists I actually didn't expect. If there is one thing to take away from this masterpiece, it's the reprecussions of human greed. Oh yeah, and lesbians :)

2. Khemjira
Thai Drama - 2025, 12 episodes
The past plot of Jin and Da was wonderfully formed, well explained, and left me desperate for more of their scenes. I loved how this couple, well, existed? It would have been very easy to cast the same actors that played Jet and Charn to be their past live versions as well, and the easy nature of inclusion really added to the depth of the plot.

3. Whale Store xoxo
Thai Drama - 2025, 10 episodes
All of this series was lovely, but specifically Chom and Tonnam were greatly relatable to me. The way this show handled "coming out" and the effect it has on a family was insightful and realistic.

4. Second Take
Taiwanese Drama - 2025, 8 episodes
Second Take poses a very complex tale that attempts to resolve itself in a very short run. Despite its shortcomings, this show finds moments to be profound, nostalgic, and truly something special. I believe its use of troupes is somewhat delicate, and the plot feels fresh even with following some common conventionsof queer media.

5. The Trainee
Thai Drama - 2024, 12 episodes
This one is quite controversial- the sapphic representation in this show has been critisized for being underdeveloped and an attempt at adding diversity without following through. I cannot agree; Bamhee and Judy do not end up together, but neither do many sapphic couples. Women break each others hearts, move on, date others, go back to exes, etc... all the time in real life. By portraying a realistic romance that doesn't have to end up all sunshine and happily ever after, The Trainee has related to me as a real-life lesbian a lot more than most GL shows.

6. Reverse with Me
Thai Drama - 2025, 8 episodes
This drama is not incredibly special, using a plot I've seen many times before and generally following the beloved by me, yet admitably overused, troupes of thai dramas. However, it sticks in my mind as one of the first times I personally got to see marriage between two women legalized in thai media. The representation was beautiful, and very gratifying to see in the genre.

7. The Bangkok Boy
Thai Drama - 2025, 12 episodes
This series was one of the most genuinly intense and fiercly passionate I had seen in a while. It's side plot focusing on the budding relationship between two women was no cute love story. Mei and Cherry faced addiction, abuse, and family trauma amoung a host of other hard hitting topics. I respect how this show did not pull its punches, and let the tradgedy of the story BE tragic. Very well done.

8. Denied Love (Uncut Ver.)
Thai Drama - 2025, 10 episodes
Speaking of sapphic marriage.... arranged marriage is one of my favorite troupes, and I loved seeing it between two women for one of the first times in thai media. This show handled a lot of more serious topics; some were done very gracefully, some less so. No matter what, this show and its team get a lot of respect from me and other enjoyers of GL.

9. Wedding Plan
Thai Drama - 2023, 7 episodes
Wedding Plan displays a somewhat trecharous topic of secret queer relationships. Yiwa and Marine are two women who had been in a serious, long term relationship at the point in which Yiwa was told by her family to marry the leading (gay) man of the series. The two of them had a well-formed, if not overly calm, dynamic that was representative of their time together. I appreciated how comfortable the two seemed with each other, and they felt like the other characters' older sisters with how mature and caring they were (with occasional expections, of course).

10. Fragrance of the First Flower
Taiwanese Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
This drama does tend to follow the trend of sapphic television being (almost overly) dramatic and tragic. While Fragrance of the First Flower is not something I would call hopeful or uplifting, it does succeed in telling an important and enduring story. Also, this one gets a shoutout for absolutly heartbreaking acting- truly incredible.

11. Show Me Love
Thai Drama - 2023, 9 episodes
Despite the near constant criticism this show recieves for its cringy nature and "lack of chemistry" (a point I vehemently disagree with, thankyouverymuch), I loved Show Me Love for at least one major reason: the complete lack of following social stereotypes on sapphic women. The idea that a woman can be feminine, a beauty pageant contestant, an intelligent businesswoman, AND queer is unfortunatly disregarded in many forms of media. Show Me Love never attempts to put the main characters in a box, and lets some multifaceted personalities and careers shine.

12. Call Me by No-Name
Japanese Drama - 2025, 8 episodes
This kind of high-drama japanese show that focuses on mystery and suspense is the kind of thing I'm far more accustomed to seeing in BL. This is why I enjoyed Call Me by No-Name; it felt like I was finally seeing the kind of j-drama I had always loved, but with queer female characters I could relate to more and get further invested in.

13. Bad Buddy
Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Although overshadowed by the incredible main couple, Pa and Ink of Bad Buddy gave the industry some incredible sapphic representation at a time in which not many wlw couples could be found in more mainstream thai media. Their plot was simple and precious; the kind of romance that isn't very grand or dramatic, yet remains memorable for a long time anyhow. MilkLove's performance in these roles were incredible.
