BLs and Bromances (partly A-Z alphabetical order)

8,5-9,5= Really good. Might even overlook some of the not so good parts production- wise. 8= Pretty damn good. Not super amazing, but I do remember it well even after a long time. (or has some sentimental value) 7,5= Still remember liking it, but didn't leave a huge impact on me. 7=  Enjoyed it while watching, but moved on quickly. Still good. 6,5= Kinda bad tbh... There was some good in it, but not quite enough. (I usually never give 10 or under 6,5) also I do not care about bad endings ... or SA UNLESS it is ACTUALLY romanticized! ⚠️= For Mature Audience Spoilers underlined and marked by start: *spoiler* and end: -

    Sweet and very manga-like.

Like most japanese bls tend to be, it was cringey in a good funny way, but also warm and sweet. It wasn't too long and felt complete. I enjoyed it.

    Cheap, but charming and funny.

Started growing on me the more I watched and I couldn't stop giggling.

The acting was a bit unclear sometimes and story shallow, but most of the time it was fine.

    Young sweet first love.

I wasn't a huge fan of the screenwriting and choice of actors, but that might also be partly because I felt uncomfortable watching such young kids. I'm not used to it haha.

Many might see it as annoying and even I did at times, but that's the point really. It's about young highschoolers who are still learning about love, relationships and biggest of all about themselves. It's not easy the first, second or even third time.. Actually relationships are never that simple.

It did drag some things a bit too long admittedly.

    Painful coming of age story.

It's too complicated to explain so I won't.

It was great though I have to say I feel like they focused too little on them after their separation. A tad bit too rushed, but it was still good.

    207. Jack o' Frost

    Pretty decent.

The plot wasn't anything crazy and the production was just alright, but it was still okay.

    Surprised me.

At first I didn't really think much of it (seemed cheap), but as it went on I  found it to be actually good. Nothing too crazy yes, but very enjoyable.

I liked the plot, it wasn't as cringey as you would think it is. It had just enough open questions to keep you interested. Perfect for a short series like this. Good screenwriting.

The acting was also pretty decent though I was sceptical in the beginning.

Also why is everyone hating on the girl..? Jeez guys.. Calm down, she's fine.

    209. Our Dating Sim

    Korean Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    Exceeded my expectations.

I honestly was ready to skip most of it, but I got hooked. It was short, sweet and simple. Their chemistry was on point and I really enjoyed it overall. Made my heart flutter.

I don't think it would've worked out as a longer series as it had just enough of everything and a good balance to work well.

    210. Laws of Attraction

    Thai Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    Very lakorn like.

It's not for everyone and I very rarely have the patience to watch it too, but this time it wasn't too bad and only 8 episodes.

The plot was pretty easy to understand unlike usually and didn't need my full attention. If you really stop to think about it yes, there's a lot of things you could point out. Like the fact that their acting wasn't the best, the characters weren't all that well written, the emotions in dialogue kept changing a bit too quickly and in scenes too.

For something you watch while doing other stuff I think it was fine. Or for someones' first lakorn. Otherwise it was decent.

    ⚠️

    D.I.D representation and great story.

Sadly very short, but still worth watching. As I'm not that familiar with DID I can't say how accurately it was shown, but otherwise it was good. Though from my understanding you're not supposed to have sexual relations with child/underage alters...How would they be mentally ready for it even if they physically are in an adults body? That's my only issue with this one. I'm pretty sure if a little (child alter) shows up during activity, you would need to stop. Never start anything with a child as that is basically p3d0phelia.

    213. Why R U?

    Korean Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    7.0

    Messy and not good.

I get that the budget wasn't same as with the thai ver. However it's almost like they didn't make this based on the original work...instead they looked at the adapted series and took some important scenes from it only. Where's the story? The substance? I was so lost with everything.. The editing didn't make it any easier. Crickets and dubbed voice, not even any J-cuts or L-cuts. Literally amateur editing.

It did get a bit better if you get over the beginning. And I got few good laughs.

And keep in mind I'm not one to compare series to each other usually.

Also waaay too many people not introduced properly from the very beginning. (Honestly it was the same with the thai series so it's probably the original works fault.) So was with the second lead couple being boring af.

Rating it like this only because the acting is decent and some other things.

    214. Love for Love's Sake

    Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes

    Seriously great!

Better than average, unique plot that I will definitely remember. Though it had some confusing scenes, once you really got into it and spent time trying to figure out all the relations, it all made sense. I've heard that the original work told about things in more detail so I guess some things were left behind, it still felt cohesive though.

It felt way longer than 8 episodes, not because it was bad, but because I didn't skip half of it like usually. I was enjoying it way more than I though I would, the actors too. I understand now the ratings.

A very nice amount of comedy, fantasy and drama.

    Will be reading the webtoon!

  • The Sign

    215. The Sign

    Thai Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

    7.0

Put it off for so long...

I skipped the whole first episode basically because it was so boring.. Also these people as film writers and directors should know that if there's something to censor don't show it. How do they not see it pulls the viewer out from the "realness" and looks cheap. Why the need to show censored a$$es? It's so funny I had to complain about it. And the cgi...

After I'd say 2 episodes it got a bit more interesting though. The more I watched the more these dumb things made sense, but they could've done everything a bit differently. Towards the end there were still too many things going on at the same time so I couldn't really focus anymore. Usually some of the drama should resolve before the end to make it both lighter and deepen the viewers interest. This failed to do so.

Also it started to lean too much on the fantasy side for my taste.

Was it awful? No. But nothing above average.

(I have to add. As someone who has somewhat followed Billy from the day he started basically, yes, what they do is mostly just fanservice. So don't go all delulu please, we don't need any more toxic fandoms. Are they wrong for doing fanservice if that's what fans want? No.)

  • Cherry Magic

    216. Cherry Magic

    Thai Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

    7.5

    It's not bad.

Not to compare it too much to the original again, I'll just say it wasn't better. Was it bad? No.

Though I like TayNew's onscreen chemistry I feel like the acting itself especially with New has always been lacking a bit. I like him, I swear I do, it's just that he might not be the best actor out there.

There were some sweet and fun moments that were enjoyable. Otherwise I found it to be quite boring. I can't really pinpoint what it was, but I couldn't get myself to watch it properly. Had to skip through some scenes and the lead couples almost completely. They just weren't at all interestingly presented.

Towards the end it got better and though I wanted it to end already I did focus more on the episodes.

I want to tell more about the positives, but the negatives outweigh them  so it's difficult.

    Balanced.

Even though it had a rough start and the production might not be the best I think it still did some things right. It was quite well put together and the story got it's end nicely. Didn't feel rushed, too slow nor boring in any way.

As for the plot it's not anything special, but I don't think it always needs to be if the execution is good. Chemistry seemed pretty good too.

  • Unknown

    219. Unknown

    Taiwanese Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

    Worth watching.

Might've started out a bit confusing and strange, but everything made sense eventually. I do like the writers somewhat unique way of seeing things. The characters, their backstory and emotions made a lot of sense.

The one thing I loved and many talk about is how the writer and this story focuses more on the characters being human and developing with time, rather than simply a relationship and romance between two.

I wished they would've maybe gone a bit deeper into Wei Qian's childhood and it's effects on his relationships and mental health. There was a lot of potential for even more story-building. Not that it's absolutely necessary I think it was great anyway, but that would've been an option they could've done.

And obviously these kind of plots and topics are not everyones cup of tea (mine is).
