Sunny Tu is a Taiwanese actress born in Zhongli, Taoyuan, Taiwan. She initially joined her high school’s Chinese opera club and was admitted to the Department of Drama at the Chinese Cultural University (中華文化大學) but chose to attend a military school instead, following her mother’s advice. After seven months, she left the military school and later completed her studies at Soochow University (東吳大學) while working part-time.

Her entry into the entertainment industry began when a producer asked her to sell English textbooks at a film studio, and when a special guest could not make it, she was asked to substitute, leading to her debut on the TV show "Qiang Bang Chu Ji" (强棒出击). A friend later submitted her autobiography to a production company, resulting in her first drama role in "Huan Jun Ming Zhu" (还君明珠). Before the show aired, she was signed as a regular actress and host by China Television (CTV).

However, due to health issues including heart surgery and hyperthyroidism, Tu gradually reduced her involvement in the entertainment industry and moved to Canada for several years. She returned to Taiwan in the 2000s, settling in Xindian, Taipei, and shifted to a career in interior design.

Tu married screenwriter Li Chang Min (李昌民) on January 26, 1998, after a one-month relationship in Las Vegas, but they divorced a year later on January 16, 1999.
