Guided by Tsui Hark, O started his career in 1980 as an assistant director. Then, he started directing: The Story Behind the Concert (1986), Dream of Desire (1989) and six other movies. In 1997, he turned himself into a cinematographer. There are totally 24 movies to his credit such as Made in Hong Kong (1997), Hollywood Hong Kong (2001), Ip Man (2008), and Gallants (2010). He worked as both producer and cinematographer on Weeds on Fire (2016), which received a Taipei Golden Horse Award nomination and six Hong Kong Film Award nominations including Best Film.
