Cha Joo Young is a South Korean actress managed by Ghost Studio. She studied abroad in Malaysia during middle school before moving to the United States for her university education. She graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Business Administration. She initially pursued this degree following her father's wishes, but later pivoted to a career in acting a path that faced some family opposition.

She made her acting debut in "Cheese in the Trap". Her first lead role was in "The Queen Who Crowns" (also known as "Wongyeong"). In 2025, she received several awards for her performance, including the Top Excellence Award, Actress in a Miniseries at the APAN Star Awards, and the Best Actress Award at the Asia Artist Awards.

In January 2026, her agency, Ghost Studio, announced that she was on a temporary hiatus to recover from urgent ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery due to chronic, recurrent nosebleeds. She paused all official activities and promotional schedules to focus on her post-operative recovery. She recovered fast enough and came back to filming in late March/early April.
