The CEO of Chrome Entertainment (크롬엔터테인먼트) did not want any trainee who was over 1.65 m or had a sexy image, so she was selected to join. The group was originally named HURRICANE POP and had a pre-debut in January 2012 when they presented the single "Bing, Bing" in Hangzhou, China. The performance was filmed by Chinese TV and included in an episode of the drama "Curry Campus". As Japan had suffered some bad weather that triggered tsunami alerts, the CEO thought it would be insensitive to have the word "hurricane" in the group's name, so he decided to change it to CRAYON POP, and he also chose the members' stage names.
She made her official debut in July 2012 (under the stage name Geummi) as CRAYON POP's leader, main dancer and vocalist with their first mini-album simply titled "Crayon Pop 1st Mini Album". Unfortunately, the album did not receive much attention, was not commercially successful, and also depleted the agency's budget. They continued to struggle in the following months as the group was only invited to 3 music shows, so in October 2012, they decided to go out and perform on the streets in guerrilla-style concerts. They were usually singing in the freezing weather, dressed in colorful attires and including unusual choreographies like jumping to grab the public's attention.
In June 2013, they released the song "Bar, Bar, Bar", which had been previewed during those street performances. The single became quite popular and stayed at the top of Billboard's Korea K-Pop Hot 100 chart for more than a month. The group was able to sign with Sony Music Entertainment to distribute their music internationally and won 1st place in a music show for the first time, and began performing abroad. In June-July 2014, they were the opening act for Lady Gaga during her 12 concerts in Canada and the US. In August 2016, they collaborated on the single "Get Dumb" with the Mexican boy band CD9 and the song was released in both English and a mix of Spanish and Korean.
Her contract with Chrome expired in March 2017 and she later signed with another agency to continue her career, now as an actress. A few months later, all group members (except Soyul) decided to sign a non-exclusive contract with Chrome to remain as part of CRAYON POP. However, the group has not released any new material since then, and there are no indications of a possible reunion, but they have never officially disbanded.
She is currently not represented by any agency.
