Magalona was introduced by co-actor Richard Gomez to Pia Arroyo at a party and the couple got married in 1985. The couple had eight children.
Magalona died of leukemia in 2009, aged 44.
In 2023 on an episode of the YouTube series "Pinoy Pawnstars" Abegail Rait, a former flight attendant, claimed to had a relationship with Magalona and that they have a 15-year-old daughter together.
