When she was in the United States, she auditioned and won the 2004 Youth Best Selection Competition and SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) offered her a contract as a trainee.
She made her debut in April 2005 as THE GRACE's main dancer, vocalist and maknae with their first single, "Too Good". The group was formed by SM as the female counterpart to TVXQ and managed to successfully debut in South Korea. Their performances were picked up by Japanese and Chinese TV stations, and they recorded all their singles in Japanese and Mandarin before officially debuting there in January and March 2006, respectively.
But she went on hiatus in December 2008 to treat a back injury she had suffered earlier that year. She never returned to the group's lineup as THE GRACE also went on an indefinite hiatus in May 2010. They have never officially disbanded, but all members are now focused on their individual activities.
She re-debuted as a solo artist in October 2012 with the single album, "The New Beginning", and signed with another company while maintaining her contract with SM to avoid being sued. She left SM in 2016 when her contract finally expired and decided to leave the group as well to focus on her career as a soloist. She is currently not represented by any agency.
