He had an interest in music since he was a child, and, in high school, he met his future bandmates, Jang Kyung Joon and Choi Jung Hoon, and they would regularly perform at Bundang Central Park.
In 2012, Choi's older brother founded the independent label Peponi Music (페포니뮤직) and began representing the band, but they had to start from the bottom, busking on the streets and performing in small clubs. In 2013, the band entered singing survival show "Superstar K 5" but, only Choi made it to the top-7 in a vocal group called PLAN B.
He officially made his debut as JANNABI's guitarist, vocalist and songwriter with their first single, "Rocket". Since then, the band has gained popularity and has produced several digital singles and OSTs for several dramas.
In August 2016, they released their first studio album, "Monkey Hotel". Then, in 2019, the song "For Lovers Who Hesitate" made it into the Gaon Digital Chart, and the band had their first national tour. They are often praised for their live performances and self-produced songs that have lyrics unique to the Korean language.
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on January 26, 2021, and was discharged on July 25, 2022.
