He established himself as a musical theatre star with his acclaimed leading role in the show Hedwig and the Angry Inch in 2005. He was awarded Best Actor in the 11th Korea Musical Awards for it. He gained mainstream fame with his role as Jang Taek Gi in The Vineyard Man. He has since remained active in theater, musicals, and dramas. He has also directed a few plays and musical shows.
He was married to costume designer Jo Sang Kyung in 2001, with whom he has one daughter, but they divorced after 6 years in May 2007. In 2017, it was reported that he was in a relationship with a non-celebrity. The couple tied the knot in early 2018, and the news was revealed later by his agency, Nice Person Company, in June 2018.
He is currently part of the faculty of the Acting department of the Korea National University of Arts.
He is managed by Uzu Rocks.
