Uehara Shozo was a Japanese screenwriter and a pivotal figure in tokusatsu and in the anime industry. He is widely regarded as the "Golden Age" of Japanese superhero television, particularly through his work with Tsuburaya Productions and Toei.

He died of liver cancer on January 2, 2020, at the age of 82.
