Chang Rong is a Chinese actor, born in Kunming City of Yunnan Province and graduated from Beijing Film Academy. Under the influence of his father, a drama actor, he was interested in literature and art in school, and then went on to join Yunnan Provincial Drama Troupe to study drama performance. He entered showbiz in 1984 with his guest appearance in the historical film "Shuang Xiong Hui".

In 1988, he made his debut as a villain in the feature film "The Price of Frenzy". He later became known to the audience for his many appearances as a police officer.

In 2004 at aged 43, he met his life partner, Chinese actress Zhang Yuan. They fell in love at first first and got married within three months. They have a daughter together.
