Zhao Ning Yu is a Chinese professor, film director, screenwriter, actor and host. Born in Beijing to an acting family, his father is Zhao Jian, a famous professor of Chinese opera. By aged 15, Zhao was already making scene notes in TV series.

Graduated from Beijing Film Academy with a master's degree in directing and the Central Academy of Drama with a doctorate in directing, he became a director at the age of 26. He is also the Doctor of Literature of the directing department of Central Academy of Drama. Besides teaching and directing, he has also played important roles in many film and TV dramas, and portrayed characters with different personalities in different eras.

Zhao won the Special Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2013 TV Drama Award Festival.

His work "1921" won the16th China Changchun Film Festival Golden Deer Award and the 34th China Film Golden Rooster Award for Best Screenplay in December 2021. A year later, it won the Golden Lihua Award for the Best Chinese Screenplay at the First Aollywood Five Continents Film Festival.

In August 2022, his screenplay "Dreams and Glory" won the Jinxuan Award for "Top Ten Screenwriters" Award at the 2nd Aollywood International TV Festival.
