Outside of politics, she began getting involved in sports in 2005 when she became the president of Special Olympics Korea and the Korean Wheelchair Rugby Association the following year. In 2009, she was selected to the Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC) and elected vice president of the KPC in 2013. That year, she was also named part of the International Paralympic Committee and was reelected in 2017.
She has been involved in several controversies due to her direct style when talking and her opinion are not often shared by the opposition or even inside her own party. However, she has a wide national recognition and attention, so she has been at the forefront of the conservative political parties.
