Na Kyung Won is a South Korean judge turned politician. She obtained a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Law and a Ph.D. in International Law, all from Seoul National University. She began her career in 1995 when she became a judge for the administrative courts of South Korea. She then joined the 2002 presidential campaign of lawyer and politician Lee Hoi Chang as a special aide for women's affairs. In 2011, she was one of two candidates for the Seoul mayoral special election but lost to Park Won Soon. She is a member of the conservative People Power Party, which is the main opposition party and she was a four-term member of the National Assembly and the first female floor leader of the Liberty Korea Party from December 2018 to December 2019. In 2021, she ran for Seoul mayor once more and lost again, this time to former Seoul mayor Oh Se Hoon, who had previously resigned in 2011.
Outside of politics, she began getting involved in sports in 2005 when she became the president of Special Olympics Korea and the Korean Wheelchair Rugby Association the following year. In 2009, she was selected to the Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC) and elected vice president of the KPC in 2013. That year, she was also named part of the International Paralympic Committee and was reelected in 2017.
She has been involved in several controversies due to her direct style when talking and her opinion are not often shared by the opposition or even inside her own party. However, she has a wide national recognition and attention, so she has been at the forefront of the conservative political parties.
