Born as the eldest son of the head family of the Umewaka school of Noh. He debuted under Daiei in 1956 with the stage name Umewaka Masayoshi. He was popular during his time at Daiei due to his appearance and proper style of speech, but he began to disappear from the popular roles. Although he gained national popularity with the hit of ''Akadou Suzunosuke'', he developed an irreverent attitude and was disliked by the staff, which led to him being rejected from the entertainment industry. In 1959, he left Daiei and in the following years starred in a few more films before retiring from acting. His fate after that is unknown.
