Funatoko Sadao was a director and film director born in Kyoto, Japan. His real name was Arai Sadao.

In 1958, at the age of 26 and without prior directing experience, he directed the first Japanese serialized TV movie, "Gekkou Kamen."

Despite being diagnosed with tongue cancer around 1970, he continued directing but unfortunately passed away at the age of 40 in 1972.
