Umezawa Soichi is a Japanese special effects makeup artist and film director from Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan.

He began self-studying special effects makeup during high school. After graduation, he spent three years preparing for art university exams but was unsuccessful. He gained experience as a projectionist at a local cinema and started working as a freelancer at the age of 23. After accumulating experience in various special effects makeup and modeling companies, he established his own studio, C.U.L (Creation of Unknown Livings), in 1997.

His wife is the actress Kurosawa Asuka, and he is the father of three children.s selected as the closing film for the Midnight Madness section of the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival.
