Okamoto Yoshihiko was a Japanese film director, television drama director, and journalist, born in Korea during the Japanese colonial period. He attended the Army Officer School (陸軍士官学校) and witnessed Japan's defeat in World War II. Afterward, he joined the Japan Socialist Party (日本社会党) in 1946. He graduated from Keio University (慶應義塾大学) in 1950 and began his career at NHK as a broadcast reporter and social program director at the Tokyo Broadcasting Station (東京放送局). In 1957, he left NHK to join Radio Tokyo (ラジオ東京).

In 1959, Okamoto married actress Mori Mitsuko (森光子), but the couple divorced in 1963. That same year, he left TBS. Later, he became a professor at Osaka University of Economics and Law (大阪経済法科大学) and Meisei University (明星大学), where he taught visual theory and broadcasting theory. In his later years, he also served as an advisor to the Japan Journalists Association (日本ジャーナリスト会議).

Okamoto passed away on October 24, 2004, at the age of 79 from prostate cancer in a hospital in Kobe.
