Numata Mahokaru is a Japanese novelist from Osaka, Japan, currently residing in Nara, Japan. From April 1985, she studied in the daytime division of Osaka Literature School and won the Osaka Literature School Award for her novel works (40 pages) while enrolled.

She got married at a young age and became a housewife, but was asked to succeed her maternal grandfather in Sakai, and her husband became the head priest. After divorcing, she ordained herself and became a Buddhist priest. In her mid-40s, she co-founded a construction consulting company with an acquaintance, but it went bankrupt after about 10 years. Despite continuing to publish works after her debut, they were not commercially successful, although they were critically acclaimed by literary critics.
