Kumano Ryuji was a Japanese actor born in Katsushika, Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Mukojima Technical High School. After a career as a professional boxer, he joined Toho and the theater company "Gekidan Sedai".

In his later years, he performed primarily under the stage name Katsushika Kokusai (葛飾刻斎).

On November 8, 2004, he passed away at the age of 62 due to liver cirrhosis.
