In 1950, she joined the Takarazuka Revue and performed as a male role star under the stage name Yamato Namiji (大和七海路). She belonged to the 37th class and was assigned to the Hana-gumi (Flower Troupe) in 1950. In 1954, she made her film debut in the Takarazuka movie "Umon Torimonocho: Maboroshi Henka" in a minor role.
On April 29, 1958, she left Takarazuka and joined Daiei Film Company.
On January 6, 1964, she married Wakayama Tomisaburo. However, they divorced in 1965, and the following year, in 1966, she retired from the film industry.
Her eldest son is actor Wakayama Kichiro.
On September 24, 2002, she was found dead at her home in Tokyo. She died of acute cardiac arrest approximately one week after her death. She was 69 years old.
