Kobayashi Kanae was a Japanese actress born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan.

In 1916, she moved to Kyoto to reside with her uncle, the film director Kobayashi Yaroku, and made her debut as a child actor in movies. As she grew up, she worked at the Daimaru department store. In November 1924, she ventured into the world of cinema, becoming a part of the Nikkatsu Daishogun Studio, and joining its historical drama department.

In 1932, she married Ito Naokichiro, who later held positions as a general affairs officer and architectural designer at the Daiei Kyoto Studio. Despite the merger of Nikkatsu with Daiei, she opted to remain with the company. Following Daiei's collapse in December 1971, she was affiliated with Eizou Kyoto.
