Richard Abelardo, a Filipino director, was born in San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan, Philippines. As a young man, he traveled to California, where he initially worked as a service painter in theaters with the Flag Company. He later secured a painting job at Universal Studios, leading to further opportunities at Warner Brothers and MGM.
