Sakaguchi's husband was actor and voice actor Maeda Masaaki, and their daughter is dancer and choreographer Maeda Nina.
Inspired to become an actress after watching Audrey Hepburn in "Roman Holiday" while attending Futaba Gakuen, Sakaguchi joined the Mingei Theatre Company after graduation. She began performing on stage in the late 1950s and became a leading actress for the company.
Her career activities were limited from her late 30s due to a back injury sustained after giving birth. Sakaguchi passed away on May 30, 2016, at the age of 78.
